well, that is explained by Mii in ch 2: since they are Saori's maids choosen from among the existing female Saints they don't need to wear the mask since technically only Saori makes contact with them
I don't like: that none of the girls have masks when fighting. I mean, they could not use them off battle as to not attract attention, but should have them if they're already wearing their Cloths (and then they would wreak during battle, but the intention is what counts lol)
As we all know, the reason Yaoi exists is because the original was such a sausage-fest - that's why it's about time Saint Seiya had some more ladies （*＾3＾）/～♡
I don't think it's exactly a gender bender. A little bit more like a equal opportunity thing since there aren't many female saints in the original series. Or female characters to be honest.
