I don't know if the lack of backgrounds adversely affected the story though? In my experience, it just focused attention more closely on the characters. I didn't consider it confusing - but that's just me.

can't help you there, but I guess the closest thing would be the short digests at the beginnings of some of the chapters; 85 and 86 immediately come to mind

I just realized what this (and other stories on batoto by extension) need. A plot synopsis forum that's labeled spoilers and keeps updated.
I just figure that sometimes I forget things when there's so much time inbetween individual updates that I'm getting lost in what's actually happening, and the visual aesthetic of the graphic novel.
Is Ernest another "Nagato" clone?

Also, I feel sorry for the twins, (they're somwhere in my top 3 favorites from this manga.)

I don't have any problem with the missing backgrounds, as long as there is one to show where the action is taking place when the said place is changing
Sure, it has A LOT of potential when it comes to the plot.
Okay these are some of my complains(only reading up to vol 6 though 'cause I don't have much time(started reading today)(may contain spoilers):
The story is pretty nice, the characters are displayed with their own set of individuality, and the plot and world they live in is something to keep you interested througout the series.
