Description: Billy Bat is a comic-in-a-comic and the real protagonist is a Japanese-American artist named Kevin Yamagata who draws Billy Bat for "Marble Comics".

Shortly after they transition to the artist in his studio with his assistant, two actual detectives, who look like Laurel and Hardy in Dick Tracy era suits and trench coats, knock on the door and appropriate Kevin's room for the purpose of conducting surveillance on a room in an adjacent building. One of the detectives, the skinny “Laurel”, sees Kevin's work and it turns out he's a Billy Bat fan. The other chubby "Hardy" detective picks up a page and says that the characters look familiar and accuses Kevin of translating an old "Jap" comic.

As Hardy remembers the comic he thinks Kevin is ripping off, we make another Urasawaesque time jump to 1949 Tokyo...

There aren't enough weird signs on my keyboard for me to swear over this in comic sans... Oh lord. Font humor. Incomprehensible font humor. Two new chapters in a row, and it's just. not. enough.
@xolot Admit it, what actually happened is that you were writing your term paper when Billy showed up asking, "Hey kid, wanna be a hero?"
oh shoot i wsa supposed to write a term paper hours ago but this is way much better
cliffhanger for real @@
Was so happy when Billy Bat was about to reveal his intentions and who/what he is. I cried when Kevin turned him down. D: Still awesome manga and one of the best suspense manga's out there.
« Fuck off Einstein, I'm drawing manga. »

I say, Kevin's got some badass guts, here.
Wow, Jackie's dad is kinda badass too.
Now everyone, shout out those words together!
Well, not EXACTLY—I hadn't read it in a while and posted without re-reading it—but certain elements are starting to come together. Pretty cool to imagine that he might have planned this from the very start.
I thought I mentioned this on the last chapter, but the whole story is wrapping to the very beginning. I think the story Kevin was drawing in the very first chapter is exactly what's happening right now.
Oh Einstein...
@Graeystone, I'd say Urasawa Naoki and Soda Masahito are on par with each other. The latter is less recognized in the western market, but if there is anything Soda Masahito does better than Urasawa Naoki, it's definitely character development. In addition, Urasawa Naoki's artsyle is fairly generic (not that it is bad), but Soda Masahito has a very unique artstyle.
My mind is blown every chapter. Love it
Anyone else get chills there in the beginning? Because I did O_O I've read too many meta stories...
This chapter brings a strong sense of deja vu... o_o

Also, did not know hobo was based on a Japanese word. You learn something new every day. ^_^
Did you read the teaser text in the very last page ?
"Next chapter, you'll be surprised"

No, really ? I would have never expected this when reading a manga by Naoki Urawawa, the cliffhanger master ! ¬_¬
I hope the Bat comes appears again.
dat cliffhanger

WHO IS THAT GUY!! AAAAARRGH!! NEED MOAR!!!!
Graeystone: Agreed. It didn't see THAT plot development coming! :o
Urasawa Naoki is a certified mangaka legend and perhaps the best bar none, FULL STOP! No one will ever be able to come close to his story telling. In most mangas, unexpected plot twists are asspulls, something people saw coming a mile away, or worse a retcon of some kind.

Naoki on the other hand doesn't do those things for his unexpected plot twists. They are carefully and methodically thought out without ruining the plot or causing the readers to get pissed off if its a retcon/asspull.
This is one big looney conspirecy. Its decent so far.
I came to this page several time but never bothered to read it much like you Defry, then one day I was bored and saw your comment, told myself why not and I totally don`t regret it this is an amazing work. So yeah thanks a bunch Defry haha.
Haha, now there's a nice turnabout.
Such a great story, so much questions and every new chapter get its share of wonders.

For a long time as it was going in every directions, i was wondering if the author had really a plan or if the story was just wrote as it goes.

But now i'm really interested to see how the writer will tie everything together.
