If the ending was as the spoiler below stated, I don't mind it. Though I couldn't understand why people kinda rejected bittersweet ending.

you've got to be kidding me, this ended in 5 volumes?! the author is smart enough to be able to make a good story while keeping it going..... so I'm guessing it was either canceled or it ended due to some circumstance

Now this is what I call a bad turn to dark and edgy. This was so much fun in the early chapters, sad.
I'm okay with that ending. Better than a crappy death for one of them or summat.
so i looked at the raws
and there doesn't seem to be any romance at all
I think the doctors power is not really a restoration and decomposition, but more of a rewind and fast forward ability.
the black is basically rewind the area back to the time where only the pillars is there, and he attack using the white to fast forward the time when the pillars is crushed with the giant ball, but he didn't include the crane so it appears as if the pillars crushed from his ability.
...
now I getting confused if this should tag as tragedy or not with such of ending like that ... (I don't like that kind of ending ... *sigh*)
