Spider-Man
Alt Names: | スパイダーマン Spider Man Spiderman |

Artist: | Ikegami Ryoichi |
Genres: | Action Adventure Drama Sci-fi Shounen |
Type: | Manga (Japanese) |
Status: | Complete |
Description: | A high school student named Yu Komori is bitten by a radioactive spider, which gave him spider-like powers. Yu faces Japanese versions of villains such as Electro, the Lizard and the Kangaroo. Yu also has an Aunt May (her name is "Mei"), and the publisher of the Joho newspaper is a counterpart to J. Jonah Jameson. NOTE: Only 7 out of the 13 Japanese stories in total were fully translated by Marvel, with heavy edits to remove the violent scenes. After that the title was cancelled, which was a likely decision by Marvel since the stories written by Hirai departed even further from the source material, and included scenes of sexual and gruesome imagery of a kind not seen in the original US Spider-Man comics. |

The story involving the kidnappers was decent though.

lol japanese spiderman i don't need to read this shit to know that he'll act like a power ranger and summon a giant fucking robot
I am not a big Marvel's Spiderman fan, and in start i found somewhat interesting this manga, at least MC's troubles with using his powers in everydays life or his moral doubts, but...
As chapters going on, plots got weaker, MC worthless untill the level of MC of "Freezing", needed to colapse all around him before he do anything
At the end, bunch of meaningless scenes of rape without much influence on the story, absurd endings, quite problematic insisting on finding way to explain vilains acts (especially chapters 7, 9,11) ...
I would not blame this on forcefull bringing Spiderman to Japan, its simple quite poor work of author and artist, one of mangas of lowest quality i read untill now. In the end i am totaly supporting opinion of the translator of this manga: http://vatoto.com/read/_/171119/spider-man_v5_ch13_by_hokuto-no-gun/26
Reaction: NO FUCKIN WAY, SPIDERMAN MANGA!!? HOLY CRAP ILUV YOU JAPAN!!! *reads description* Fuck you America, fuck you.
Yes, though probably not as interesting as the take where Spiderman pilots a giant mecha.
I'm not saying change is bad, far from it, case-in-point: Superman:Earth One, 'nough said.
I wouldn't say that change for change's sake is what happened here (@darksideofsilentbob: like what happened with the recent less ethnically challenged incarnation of Spider-Man). Here change was needed to cross the cultural divide. How well that change is made is often difficult to determine objectively, especially if you grew up with the source material (and even more so if it was/is culturally relevant to you).
I shake me head thinking how hard it would be just to get Spidey's sarcasm to come across, if it is even culturally acceptable...
Anywho, I did get a sense (I'm using sense loosely here) of vintage Spider-Man, but this is definitely a manga, so don't think otherwise going into it. Regardless, it was pretty interesting to see a Japanese representation of Spider-Man differences and all, but I gotta admit, when I saw this title on here I was speechless.
It's a worthwhile read for any Spidey fan, and for everyone else, why the heck not, I mean, how many people do you know that have read a Spider-Man manga....
i don't know what to say to this really, i mean i like how both mediums of manga and american comics are trying to learn from each other, but there is a limit, this seems old, so its possible that this was a one shot, but i don't think japan needs to japananize spiderman, like we don't need to americanize one piece, or gintama, or bleach, or even berserk, try techniques not characters
Still, think of the possibilities. If they can do this, how about a manga version of Asterix?
they even made spiderman Japanese x.x
