Honestly, i hate this trope too. Maybe i will be able to tolerate this better if i see this story as "that comedy" from the start. You know, that comedy, the kind of comedy where the MC is just someone that makes you facepalm immensely and endlessly.

How we started? Let's start with the MC. The MC had a huge crush on his childhood friend. (which is later become a healer in the Hero party.) They're so close they even made a promise to marry each other when they grow up.
 
Few years later, his childhood friend appointed to become a healer for the hero party and journey together with them. After the journey, this childhood friend ended up fall in love the Hero. Knowing this, the MC was so shocked and traumatized that he ended up wrote a letter and ran away from his village to ended up living in a mountain. The MC didn't know what kind of mountain is this, but the villager already know this mountain is the most dangerous area that must be avoided.
 
2 year later, after became a hikkikomori in that mountain, our MC here decide to came back to his village. He become so ridiculously strong that every time he spot a monster, he just simply "go full Saitama" on that monster. In other word, he become One-Punch Man. So, he keeps walking down the mountain and meet with a beautiful elf. After chit chat here and there with the elf, he fall in love with her and confess to her.
 
And after he confess...

He run away. He's simply running away from the elf without giving a chance for the elf to give him a proper answer. And this is the reason why I hate this series so much. He's strong and OP, I get that. But, in exchange for that, he's so weak in mental department.
 
After that, I don't know how he developed. I dropped it after that confession, seeing how the MC had a really weak mentality.

And I don't understand, why this series get a passed to have manga adaptation? There are a lot better WN/LN out there who deserve it.

I don't know if it becomes better afterward, but here's the plot when I stopped.

According to him, he as so weak at the beginning that the "basic" monsters that you could find on the mountain were all way stronger than him.

And so, he fought to survive and, in the end, was strong enough to casually hunt those "basic" monsters.

 

Except that, as you can guess, the mountain was Hell on Earth and that every single mosnters there could wipe out an entire city.

So he is basically godlike.

And he hadn't noticed (he noticed later)

 

After leaving the mountain, he met some people, fell in love with a woman.

Then at some point, he confessed to her, got embaressed and, because of the trauma he had, he decided to flee the village where those people were (even though the woman in question was also in love with him).

 

I dropped soon afterward because I felt that the plot wouldn't change and I found it stupid...

 

For all I know it might have gotten better, but I dropped it, so, I don't really care.

Hold your horses, it might not be that bad.

I too was losing hope at one point, because with gags once is funny, twice is ok, repeat again and you've failed a novel. But IMO it pulled through, stopped with that nonsensical part (there's plenty left ofc, but it's not bad) and it could be a good read.

TL;DR it can get annoying, but it does get better, maybe the manga will shorten that period, where the author missed the timing somewhat.

I love this light novel especially how he gets ridiculously strong and doesn't even realize it for the longest time. it is hilarious too because he is pretty much the densest kind of mc. he even causes gods to fall for him and doesn't realize until they literally spell it out for him. insta followed before even reading the chapter

You know, if you're going to make him dense, might as well make him as dense as a neutron star.  That kind of absurdity is pretty fun. =P

He becomes basically Saitama after this and becomes so strong he doesn't even realize for a while that he's a monster. Feeling bad for him, a goddess gave him bullshit power and wants his dick. Along the way, he gets even more powers from other goddesses that want his dick too. He also entrances a bunch of women, but runs away from them after confessing because he thinks he's been rejected. Those women form an alliance to find him so they can jump on his dick.

 

His childhood friend you'd think would want to be part of that, but nope, apparently she actually did fall for the Hero, and just felt bad about her feelings for MC changing.

ok basically he easily falls in love but various things happen to make him think that they don't like him in return from a friend of the girl outright lying to him to the elf girl accidentally saying the wrong thing. and even though he is ridiculously strong he's not perfect for example In This World of Magic he has no magic and he doesn't actually know how to fight people he basically wins through op strength and speed. so when​ he has to fight someone who knows how to fight strong things like him he actually gets his butt kicked and only wins because a god actually intervenes for him. the girls who fall for him end up meeting and​ decide we're going to group together to hunt him down and force him to understand how we feel. even ends up with a baby dragon following him around sitting on his head

Someone please fix the synopsis so it actually tells you something about the story. It is so vauge that it is useless.

MC got cucked (rejoice ntr fans! lul) and goes to the mountain to become stronger and ntr back the hero (rejoice again ntr fans! lul).  

 

Joke aside, can anyone who read the light novel or something something that has novel of it tell me in spoiler mode what the story is about. I have the shield hero vibe where mc got repeatedly get fucked in the ass many times.
