I saw it all coming but why do I feel so sad!

Pretty good story, however the plot twist was mostly spoiled by the description.

I was waiting all the time for Poppo to say it.

Wow... This was an excellent read. Very powerful. Especially since I was not really expecting it. My respect for this mangaka has gone up even further.

Yeah and in real life they could have lived pretty much indefinitely with this.

I felt that the story was a bit rushed for my liking, but it was alright. Kind of unpredictable and well-delivered.

If Iijima had the same disease, then where is the device that is placed near his heart, the one that Takagi has? The beach scene showed that he was topless and there wasn't any device there. It would've been better if he had a shirt or something to hide it. Or is it that, it can be implanted inside? If thats the case, then we should see a scar or something. But so far, we are only shown of his young and healthy body.

 

We can't also conclude that he got it after the beach scene, since he told Takagi that he was surprised to hear that they have the same disease, meaning, he had it way before they met. The backstory he gave also said that he had it before they met as well, probably around when he was young or in middle school.

 

I don't really know so I want to hear your thoughts about this. I'm not knowledgeable of the disease they have so there is a possibility that there are different device models that can be used to monitor their heart beats that I do not know of.

Let me point you to this correction made by a kind Russian translator.

 - The second speech bubble is about her wishing she had an internal pace maker (a piece of foreshadowing that's important to keep).

 

page 42:

 - Poppo explains why we didn't see the pace maker on his chest back on the beach: he got an internal one. Hence the foreshadowing back then.

 

In other words, you can read it again after corrections have been made.

Russian translator here; so glad to finally see this gem translated into English! However, there are quite a few minor translation errors here and there, not to mention the grammar mistakes. I'll post the former in case you would like to make an updated version down the line and leave the latter to the editors.

 - The reason behind Poppo-kun's nickname should probably be explained here, since he makes it sound like it's something obvious, and yet only a Japanese speaker would get it.

 - The イエーイ in the middle frame is missing for some reason. It's not a translation mistake, but it still bothers me, so I'll mention these, too.

 - Poppo-kun didn't keep his hair long, he dyed his hair. You can even see his old hair color on one of the later pages (and it is translated correctly there).

 

page 9:

 - Takagi just tells him to point this at her chest, not that this is the device that was there (that obviously wasn't a mobile phone over there).

 

page 11:

 - The second speech bubble is about her wishing she had an internal pace maker (a piece of foreshadowing that's important to keep).

 

page 12:

 - 思わず is "Without thinking", not "I thought that". He basically blurted out that offer from the next page.

 

page 14:

 - The キャー　is missing.

 

page 15:

 - しぶい is closer to "Reserved" rather than to "Excited". Poppo basically says that digging for seashells is far from the first thing anyone would do on the beach.

 

page 16:

 - The first frame is missing lots of stuff. This isn't the first time she told someone about her disease, but this is the first time someone told her something like that after learning about it. And that's what made her so happy. At least the rest of the page still delivers that idea.

 

page 17:

 - She simply tells him to call her Hatsu in the third frame, since Poppo keeps calling her by the family name.

 - The クルッポ is missing.

 

page 20:

 - The last line is "Like this"; it's connected to the first line of the page, not to the next one.

 

page 21:

 - the 神…神の食べ物… is missing.

 

page 24:

 - The second frame is still about her parents: they are happy that she's happy, but a bit sad, too.

 

page 25:

 - Poppo asks whether she thinks he's going to hold back now.

 

page 27:

 - To be exact, the pick is the first thing she bought (to my knowledge, it's the only pick she has).

 

page 34:

 - The third speech bubble is closer to "This is more exciting than I imagined", but it's not a major error.

 

page 42:

 - Poppo explains why we didn't see the pace maker on his chest back on the beach: he got an internal one. Hence the foreshadowing back then.

Imo it would be like: 1)take toki doki oneshot 2)cut in two slices 3)put some komi naoshi flavoured crap like nisekoi in between 4)add some exotic sauce like zawsze in love 5)serve cold with this cool speech as topping "this story is about teaching people that prolonging life at the cost of actually living it to the fullest is wrong, a fulfilling yet short existence is infinitely better than a long one where the only thing you do is waiting for the reaper. Which his kinda ironic since here at shonen jump we don't put this principle into practice since we like to have our mangas run for years even after they have turned into crappy messes"
