Village elder reminds me ALOT of our favorite LITTLE guildmaster of a magic guild named Fairy Tail.
No, don't worry, i realize that people are shits. But those are pathological examples from countries i don't hold high in regard of morals anyway. You can't generalize based only on them, but sure, i stand corrected, SOME people do such things.
Oh and by help i meant: "call an official entity, whether it's the police, fire department, or medical services" not an actual medical help, which without proper training is often more dangerous that the accident itself.
Thank YOU! I was looking for this name.
whoa, a story about lamed lamed wufniks, neat!
but Borges' take on them is one that's always stuck with me:
That is the difference between common law and civil law. In common law countries such as the US and UK, there is no duty to rescue victims. Bystanders and witnesses cannot be held liable for standing around and watching. In most civil law countries, people are supposed to at minimum call an official entity, whether it's the police, fire department, or medical services, and only in very few countries is it considered a crime to not help. In fact, in order to encourage bystanders to help, some countries have instituted what is known as a "good Samaritan law", where you cannot be charged with a crime or sued even if you make the situation worse as long as you intended to help. This is because people would try to help victims and then would subsequently get sued for being accused of making things worse. I can find many examples of these situations, but I will provide only a few. If you really think most people will help out of the goodness of their hearts and not because they don't want to go to prison, I hope the ugly truth doesn't shatter your worldview.

You can find many more examples if you just look around and read the news.
Tales of demons and gods??? (lel)
It's not a time rewind dwbi.
People seriously do such things? I mean one thing is coming to totally unknow people with story like "i'm going to kill myself" which is classical screaming for attention and getting bashed for it. But not helping a victim of accident is an actual crime in many countries so people who upload such videos to social media are easily found and charged for it. Only situations i've seen when people do such thing are:
-drunken fights among teenagers (or adults behaving like teenagers)
-bad parents photographing their children getting hurt in small accidents
-comics/animations showing how uncompassionate society is. Those were mostly Japanese or Korean works
Other than that people usually record videos to have a proof of those accidents not to sell it. Such recordings or photos are sometimes really valuable to police.
About manhwa... please not be an another story about time rewind, please not a time rewind, really please...
People on the internet tend to be quite abrasive in their comments because there's no real penalty for saying things that can incite others. If you look at comments on any popular site, there are always people saying really terrible things. Some of them are trolls and some aren't. There have been some fairly well known incidents where people have said they would commit suicide on a live stream and many people actually watched and egged them on, or insulted them.
Most everyone else is part of the "it's not my problem" crowd. This is especially true in real situations. It's quite well known in social psychology as the bystander effect, where people don't want to get involved and assume somebody else will do something. It's not a matter of the media specifically portraying people as evil so much as a reflection on society in general. Even in this day with smartphones able to record HD video and great photos, it's quite common for people to stand around just filming rather than actually helping someone who may be in need, and then upload it to social media (fb/yt/twitter) hoping to be the "first video" so they can go viral and sell the rights to their video for some quick cash. This includes not only accidents, but public fights, people getting mugged, and any other situation you can think of.
Typical as in: "most of them are like that" it's the same with "typical LN adaptation, has no story but a lot of Mery Suism". There is no political context in there. You just overinterpreted it.
Those webcomics are hosted by Naver which is Korean, they are in Korean language so calling them Korean webtoons/webcomics is pretty normal, right? Someone told me that there is a difference between Manhwa (which usally have editors working with author) and webcomics (which are totally fanwork from the beginning) and i have to say that they are right. Naver accepts really poor works. That's why quality of those webtoons automatically goes down, there are no proper editors for them (mostly) and that means that things that would get thrown into garbage can by an editor land on Naver.
If you want to point what are pros of self-publishing, forget it... i know it all too well, from scientific AND practical POV.
Why should we not use country names to describe things made in that country? People should understand that overzealous political corectness is as bad as racism which they want to fight so much. It's not nice to people when somebody says "oh, you are from that country... let's try not to mention it in our talk", actually it's the same with any kind of "problematic condition". That protective behaviour is something that places another person in a lower position than you from the very beginning. And that is what we call discrimination.
Talks about religion etc. incite flame wars only when people want it, and if they want to do it ... well it's not that they won't find their own reason to start it... Censoring users just for that is definitely wrong. Actually any of the "sensitive issues" SHOULD be discussed, preferably in a civilized manner. They won't magically disapear when you don't look at them, and leaving them as a taboo could have very bad consequences. Just look at Japan, did you know that til this day they didn't apologize properly to China for what they've done to them in II WW? Why is that? It's a taboo to mention it, so we falsificate history, then it's possible to wage wars for that etc. That's why it's better to discuss problematic things than to sweep them under the carpet.
I think it's some kind of trend mixed with the hate for image/commentboards. Sure there are tons of assholes out there, but ... i don't really understand it either....
Does anyone here know anything about the ongoing trend of making background characters in stories out to be the most selfish, uncaring and apathetic narcissists you could possibly imagine? Usually if someone in a manga, manwha, etc reads about something on the internet the comments tend to be quite horrible, or say that the current predicament isn't their problem. The same happens if a character is assaulted, close to a recent murder, or happens upon something equally awful while in public, though in this case it is the surrounding crowd that fills the roll of being quite mean. Hell, if the protagonist is anywhere close by chances are they will be accused of being the perpetrator.
So to make it clearer, I wonder if anyone knows why there is this trend of having the crowd be evil in manga, manwha, books, comics, etc. Is it simply because it makes for a better story, or is it a popular stereotype based on how certain people view their surroundings? Why does nearly everyone have to be so mean?
1st I don't hate South Korea nor manhwa. I hate shitty manhwa which is different. Just because there are tons of "pretty" drawing doesn't mean comic is automatically good, especially when story is lowest of the low (Freezing or tons of Naver comics?). ToG is awesome, Nobless got boring but i still read it from time to time, Yongbi the Invincible is one of the greatest historical themed seinen i've read. Ares was also interesting. So you are very wrong.
I read what i want and no crazy fan won't tell me that i should or should not read comic which is possibly interesting. Then i write an comment about it. That's it, if something looks like another boring and cliché story from LN i drop it instantly, but this is not the case. This is not 100% sure now, but i expect it to go that way. If i'm wrong i will be more than happy to read another chap (that Gandalf the Gray character is definitely funny).
2nd second, why do you use third person when reffering directly to me? Some kind on new fad or do you try to mimic other language (i doubt that with your level of English Profinency it's not intentional)?
3rd i used "What a shitty country that Korea is..." because this story happens in South Korea (probably), it would be "What a shitty country that Japan is..." if the story would happened in Japan. Also "that Korea" implies that specific country depicted in the story not real country which could be very different from what is shown.
It's not culture of specific country it's a way of thinking which got popular in the internet. "Don't help others because *blahblahblah*", even when it's easy to help people AND not get into a troubles. This kind of thinking is wrong no matter which country on this f*** world it exist. You can take tens of selfies or photos of accidents but you can't take one photo just to document crime? Then you say that the guy was "self-righteous" because he helped person in a need and had problems later? F*** you idiots i say f*** you.
So get off your horses and don't try to act like a protector of South Korea (or any country for that matter) because that's racist (or xenophobic if you are from South Korea) as hell.
BTW:
What a shitty country that Korea is... and those commenting guys have shit for brains... i mean, probably 99.999% of those idiots have smartphones, just take a photo AND THEN help the person assaulted.
Story looks like yet another "sucked/reincarnated into fantasy world" so i don't hold my breath for this
