People voted person B instead of person A and things went pear shaped, because person B proceeded to slowly destroy democratic norms and established a personality cult. The same thing happened in hungary, in russia, in turkey and countless others countries since the dawn of democracy. Voting for the wrong man is how democracies die.

Eh realism is subjective. From some perspectives, 'realistic' shounen-romance-comedy-drama always progresses into seinen-horror-psychological-tragedy as the protagonist spirals into mental illness and their relationships/life/goals/future disintegrate.
