probably because it lets you dream the "what if this sh*t happens to me?" dream. also, wouldn't anyone be interested on how the main character will maintain a "harem" despite being a "shortie without any redeeming characteristic".
on another note... it would be very interesting for me if there's an aizawa-san similar to himuro.

Just because something is cliche doesn't mean that people won't read/watch/listen/follow... In fact, I daresay that a large number of people, if they really like a particular dynamic/genre/style/device, will do so BECAUSE it's cliche... xD
