It's clear they are falling for each other, but she's still hung up on her husband. Maison Ikkoku is an apt comparison to this. Kyoko fell in love with Godai early on, but she was also hung up on her dead husband, Soichiro. Hell in chapter 5, she went out of her way to come see him. If it was just motherly affection, she wouldn't have done that. The biggest thing is that while she's developing these feelings, she's also projecting her feelings of her husband onto him as well which will cause problems most likely.  I'm sure they will eventually become genuine though.

It took Godai 7 friggin' years before breaking through Kyoko's shell. He basically had no sex life between 18 and 25 (except maybe with his right hand). A wonder he never gave up and didn't hookup with Kozue or Yagami. It would have been easier.

So, while I don't think this manga is going to be as long as Maison Ikkoku, I think there's room for their relationship to develop.

I disagree. She does mention they're very similar, but there's no real reason to read too much into it. The ring staying on her finger speaks louder to me, but my opinion might be biased because I know a widow who won't take her ring off because she still loves her late husband. Her story actually made me cry, but its beyond the scope of this manga.

 

 

I agree, mostly. Young women and certain mature women would rather invest on their own future and live a decent late life because of how the financial system works everywhere (they fuck you over every chance they get), which is why I used "eventually" as a conditional. I do believe that in the particular case of a widow, it's kind of a broken dream even if it wasn't in the table at the time her husband was alive.

She could be living with his insurance. Or get an allowance from his and/or her parents.

She seems to be young enough that her parents still work and support her.

I would like to believe the people reading this manga do not care about a setting in which Yakumo is a 28 year-old widower and Yamato a 16 year-old in the girl's track club or something, but it's wishful thinking. It would instantly get called "pedo bait."

I personally wouldn't care because it's fiction, but it takes just one random person to start badmouthing something for it to fall apart regardless of how retarded the arguments are.

Don't get me wrong, this is definitely progressing towards something more romantic but I wouldn't say that she came onto him.
