Description:	Ichijo Kazuya thought that he was murdered, but when he came to, he was back in his high school days. He lived his entire life as a playboy and had had countless sexual encounters with women until that fateful day that he was killed. He realizes that his murderer was his old high school friend Tanaka Masaki who was jealous of Kazuya’s relationships and his built up anger eventually exploded. Taken back 15 years into his past, it seems that he has been given a second chance at life and given a chance to make different choices. He decides that the way to prevent his eventual demise is to make sure Masaki is more successful with girls and loses his virginity before Kazuya. But fate seems to be steering Kazuya towards the path of his previous life and keeps introducing the same girls he had sexual encounters with.

When they die you wish they would be alive, when they stay alive you wish something more dramatic would happen. I dont get myself but this one sure ended anticlimactic.

That ending... fell pretty flat. Ending there woulda been fine, it just needed more conclusiveness. Oh well. I enjoyed this manga! Kinda wish there was more.

Man... That farewell message is sure gonna make me miss this manga. Im still salty about the glasses chick not ending up with the MC, but I've read worse. Thank you to everyone who worked on this manga and the people who refrained from posting spoilers. You da real MVP.

I feel a bit dissasatified with the ending, a bit...like we just a hit a wall, should have been one more chapter of them marrying, or something, to get closure...

while i dont think the ending was rushed, i still think its missing something. May be adding another page with them walking out together would add some sort of closure. Actually closure is exactly what's missing from this ending.

Glasses girl, there's many man in this world but y de fuk you choose masucky? There ain't any loser more supreme than masucky.

Masaki has problems, to be sure, but he's not a bad guy. He's kind and passionate, willing to fight (and kill) for the sake of others. They also have a lot in common. Interest in books and writing, shared history with several "moments" together, and all that sort of thing; as well as common pains as well, both knowing what it's like to see their "first love" going toward another person instead, etc.

He's probably also a lot less mopey/angry while not being directly worried about what his friend is doing/taking from him. It doesn't go away deep down, but it's not consuming him.

Just my thoughts. Again, Masaki's got issues, but then most everyone in the series does, and he's got some good points and such too.

The main thing missing for me is Masaki's comeuppance. He gets to be some creepy introverted killer for the entire story, but all is forgiven in the last chapter? He even gets to be engaged to the glasses cutie. I hope she dumps his ass after learning about his possible inner-psycho even if it was in another timeline. Pretty much the only respectable thing he does is unleash his pent up killer rage on the random stalker dude. Also, why is the random stalker dude still in this timeline if Yoshino was not as promiscuous?

I see everyone here is hate Masaki,

But i think Masaki is qute pitiable, poor, and unlucky guys, and i somehow can understand how his feeling.

How your feeling when your (what you thought is) best friend take everything you don't have, your childhood friends, your class mates, and especially your crush, and play around with them. When originally you give up to your crush, knowing that your crush like that particular best friend and hope he can make her happier than being with you, but he keep play around and leave her in her demise till she commit suicide?

Sure i will want to kill that guy.

Easy, you don't be friends with them. Not complicated. I enjoyed the series up until the end but all throughout Misaki was a pretty crappy character and could have easily done without him. The ending WAS rushed since they didn't allow any explanations for anything that resulted in the end. Just a big gap in the story.

That's because the ending feels rushed. So of course it feels like a plot hole exists (Actually, I feel the same way).

Well, it's been a ride alright. I did like this series though I thought overall it was underwhelming at the very end. Anyone think this could work for a 1 cour anime adaptation?

Consistent? The whole story is based on the premise that redoing your life with different decisions will reach a different outcome. Characters AREN'T supposed to be consistent. Its terrible writing.

To paraphrase your words: "all of the characters should change because this manga is about going into the past to alter things and consistency is bad because that means there was no alteration"..... *deep breath*

I think you misunderstand. I was talking about Masaki's personality, and it's consistent because brain chemistry isn't necessarily something you can change with a few "better memories". The story is "inconsistent" in the sense that the outcome has indeed changed; history has changed. However, as I said Masaki the "character" is consistent. His psychological profile does not take a drastic alteration and he's still mostly the same introverted, insecure, and paranoid Masaki, even when history changes. His lot in life improves a little on Ichijou's second go, sure, but he as a person is still mostly the same inside. And that's good writing because a lot of that sort of stuff is ingrained very early on in childhood and is tough to repair, even with a good shrink. Keep in mind that our protagonist didn't go back to their early childhood years; He went back to their post-puberty high school years. There's only so much he could do. And even if he had gone back to early childhood to try to get Masaki to be more personable, charismatic, and outgoing in order to help him avoid having psychological problems and maybe make friends more easily, there's no guarantee that he'd succeed.

To further expound upon this idea:

While it's easy to for many readers to look at this manga with a perspective of black and white morality where the Ichijou is/was a "bad guy", so to speak, and then became sort of a "good guy" on his second chance, or Masaki is a "good guy" with a "bad guy" lurking inside, I think one has to view the manga from a more "psychological issues" perspective. Each character has their own unique psychology and personality, and with some people, you cannot easily change that person's psychological makeup, especially if it's a deeply ingrained issue.

Yes, Ichijou has his own hangups and problems, and feels like he's incapable of giving honest love to another woman. Maybe he could have saved Yoshino, maybe not. With that said however, it wasn't Masaki's place to be on-the-spot judge and executioner for Kazuya Ichijou's failure to save Yoshino.

The thing is (and from here I speak about the "first life" instance of Ichijou, where he was a womanizer).... with Masaki, while it was wrong for him to commit murder, we also have to keep in mind that Masaki didn't kill Kazuya as an act of vengeance for the sake of Yoshino; rather he killed Kazuya as an act of personal release. Ichijou's "failure to save Yoshino" was actually just a convenient excuse for Masaki to unleash his pent up jealousy, insecurities, and what he likely saw as his own personal failings and lack of improvement as a person and his lot in life. So yes, it was wrong, but I think he was driven in large part by his psychological disorders, or you could call them his inner demons. Those inner demons that plague Masaki give him the tendency to release them in knee-jerk, violent ways. In contrast, the personal demons plaguing Ichijou caused him to sleep around and never form anything more than shallow, selfish relationships with women.

Think back to how Masaki justified his anger at Ichijou. He blamed Ichjou for not saving Yoshino from her lifestyle, but Ichijou's own emotional issues in a sense, prevented that outcome from the start. He simply wasn't mentally or emotionally capable of saving Yoshino. And it's not like Masaki tried to save Yoshino either, which he might possibly have been able to do by, I don't know, getting to know her? But with him, his introverted awkwardness also prevented that outcome. So what we're left with is the almost inevitable result that Yoshino is killed and Kazuya soon follows her in death.

Again, Masaki didn't change as much as the rest of the cast because his mental problems are too deep-seated. Yes, he did improve somewhat, for instance, he found a (future) wife and his career as an author seems to be taking off this time around. Despite that, he still does have mental disorders, which as I explained why above, is consistent.

When you think about it, Masaki is actually the best-written character in the manga because of how well he represents the intractability of mental illness. He's a consistent character because mental illness is often times a lifelong problem that for some people, cannot be completely cured. I feel that you can't peer into and discover as much depth with the other characters. That's my opinion at least. The protagonist had less serious personality problems, and thus was more capable of change than Masaki. One could say that, on the scale of cosmic fate, that made Kazuya the best candidate to go into the past and try to fix things as much as I could. I bet after Masaki killed Kazuya, he later felt deep remorse and sadness, and wished he hadn't done it. We'll never know because the author didn't write what happened after the murder in the first timeline. But again, compared to Kazuya, Masaki's problems were too deeply ingrained, and thus he wouldn't have been a good candidate for being sent into the past and trying to fix things. I think that's at least partly why we're reading a cartoon book where Kazuya is the protagonist, rather than Masaki.

I think all humans have both goodness and badness within them, and while they are ultimately responsible for any good deeds or wrong doings they commit, I can feel at least some sympathy with the broken ones, like Masaki. The ones who aren't quite right in the head often get that way not just from their own internal failings, but from external circumstances as well.

In a sense, this manga isn't so much about the main character altering things to try to fix situations so that a different outcome is reached (one where he doesn't get killed). Rather, it's a manga about the protagonist confronting some of the mistakes in his life that helped mold him into having a messed up personality that saddled him with inner demons in the first place. A personality which lead him to sleep with women and not be capable of giving them love because he couldn't love himself enough. Because he couldn't trust or respect himself enough to be confident that he could give love/trust/respect to another person. When he fixes some of his own inner problems, and avoids mistakes that lead to those problems (like sleeping with Reiko, who's Mitsuru's GF, the first time around), what naturally follows he is now more capable of helping others and their lives in the process. Even Ichijou doesn't do a complete 180 from his old self, despite the improvements he's made. What he does do is confront his demons and makes slow but steady progress. The manga is realistic in that sense.

Masaki had consistent mental disorders in both timelines = Good writing since his brain chemistry didn't magically change during the short do-over chance Kazuya had with him in high school.
