My feeling is if Akira is acting ignorant of Makoto's feelings, it's for keeping the status quo not just between her and Makoto, but also between her and other female friends. My impression is that in the past she had a friend who either got hurt or became resentful because of Akira's relationship with Makoto, and as a result that friendship was lost. Now Akira probably walls off the idea of there ever being something romantic between her and Makoto so that she can feel secure in keeping all her friendships, never risking losing or hurting someone.
Can be frustrating to watch, but understandable. If at the moment she feels content she's not going to want to gamble. She has to reach a point for herself where she sees she has more to lose by doing nothing than changing.
This is a very good comic, I was wondering how they would go with it, I like the nice casual feel with the subtle romance undertones, as long as it doesn't just stick there for tens of chapters or whatever where there is no progress.
Glad to see someone else has noticed. I don't think I've seen a single post from him/her/it across dozens of manga comment sections that isn't like this one.
I'm trying to ignore Rozzak. He's just venting, and I'm starting to think that for a lot of these manga he just skims a couple of chapters, enough to find something to hang a complaint on. Basically, he's a troll--he goes from manga to manga saying stuff just to piss people off. It's quite impressive, really--by putting this stuff in a huge proportion of the manga I follow and triggering a bunch of justifiably annoyed replies, he has single-handedly shifted the overall experience of reading the comments from basically pleasant to somewhat unpleasant. Congratulations are in order, I guess.
She doesn't "love" her best buddy Makoto in the romantic wants-to-live-the-rest-of-her-life-with-him manner. She knows her own mind on this subject. This may change.
Makoto is jealous and prickly about the idea of someone, anyone else being friendly or even romantically interested in Akira because... he doesn't know why himself. He's definitely not ready to accept or admit to himself that he might be romantically interested in his best buddy. This may change.
As it says in the description of the manga (which I wrote, incidentally...) they're going through some changes in their relationships with each other and their circle of friends, new and old and some still to make their appearance. That's what makes it interesting.
It's unusual to see a "hatsukoi" (first love) story set in a university age group rather than the stereotypical high school or even middle-school age group. I find it somewhat refreshing.
It's like reading subtitles with very strong localization while hearing the original japanese VA.
(what's being said): "He likes you"
(how it's being translated in her head): "You like him".
oh god all this chapter
...aaand
at least hold it till next chapter sensei...
Arrgh I regret reading this in office, can't make any sound or rolling on the flooooor
I expect hard BSOD.
I can't wait to see her face and how long it takes to sink in.
Oh my.
I've been really enjoying this manga and I'd like to give some props to amplified for all these releases. On a manga with full-sized chapters, one release a month is pretty common. In the last month, counting .5s, we have received ten chapters. We are spoiled with an embarrassment of riches; thanks and kudos!
As much as I hate it - and I haaaaaaaaate it - sometimes it takes a bitch to do what needs to be done. AKA get Akira to WAKE THE FUCK UP AND SMELL THE SHOUJO ROSES.
Looking at Akira's face, it doesn't look like much has changed? Though that could just be the mangaka's art style. But seeing as Makoto's face has extra detail and big eyes and other sparkly shoujo-ness I think the mangaka could make Akira's face more "pretty" if she wants to. Seeing as she doesn't, it seems like Akira's face is like that on purpose.
Not saying Akira isn't pretty, of course. When she smiles or blushes she looks so cute!
Japanese Women's size 27 shoe = US Women's size 10.5
That's my size...Akira I feel your pain!
oh my, talk about being a bitch
"t/n: get a man who can do both"
best advice
but that happened when they were kids.
I forget which chapter but I believe there was a scene where Makoto's sister put a wig on her and everyone agreed she basically looked like a boy in a wig.
I mean, I think I'd be a bit let down if all she did was grow her hair out and everyone started looking at her differently as if a hairstyle was the problem all along.
I want her to realize that she's always been a girl, regardless of what anyone believes, and that the only one who can define her gender is herself. I feel like this will make her more confident. I don't know about you, but nothing screams 'mature woman' to me like confidence.
hmmmm when will she grow her hair? that might solve a lot of things, just saying.
They just need a fanservice scene to fix that.......... I never thought I would say something like that in my life. *shivers*
Well, I think this chapter shows that he's well equipped to tackle that at least, haha.
