He even makes a call to a reporter-onee-san, but she isn’t any better.

Things look grim but Sakuta is still full of genki and optimism.

Sakuta: Let’s go, Mai-san!
Mai: Where to?
Sakuta: Somewhere where people still remember about you.

He makes a call to his imouto to tell that he won’t be back today.
And, while he’s at it, Sakuta confirms that Kaede doesn’t have any recollections of Mai either.

And so, they ride a train to a random destination, while asking people around whether they know about Mai.

But to no avail.

Somewhere around midnight they decide to stop this and go to a hotel.
Mai is still in invisible mode, ofc.

Mai: I’m going to take a shower. Don’t you even dare to peek.
Sakuta: Rest assured. Just the sound of running water will be enough for me.
Mai: A-and d-don’t do a weird things while I’m away!

While Mai is in the shower, Sakuta being the nicest guy ever tries to phone his friends and ask them one very important question.
Strangely, Kunimi and Futaba are still remembering Mai.

After that Sakuta and Mai have a little chat which ends up on the flirty notes, as usual.
As a conclusion they decided to go and buy underwear for Mai together.

As a midnight city landscape sets up a romantic mood, they start to talk again.
Sakuta promises he’ll never forget Mai and if he does he’ll eat Pocky with his nose.

When our couple returns to the hotel, they start to discuss where Sakuta is going to sleep.

Mai: If you promise not to do anything, I’ll allow you to sleep in the same bed with me.

And so they ended up sharing same cramped bed.

Now only Sakuta knows about Mai’s existence.

Everybody notes that our shiny protagonist is not that shiny anymore, but looks more like a zombie.

Mai: Do you want to study together?
Sakutaemon: Da ga kotowaru! (But I refuse.) Lewd thoughts will hinder my concentration!

In the evening Sakuta visits konbini.

“Halt! Personal belongings inspection!”

Bunch of energy drinks is discovered.

Mai: As I thought. You haven’t been sleeping since that time…

This results in Mai visiting Sakuta’s room again.

Sakuta: So why did you come? Are you finally going to confess?
Mai: Wrong. You get it too, right? I’m not letting you sleep tonight.

They continue to chat while Sakuta drinks his tea.

When suddenly
“Mai-.. san.. Why?”
His body starts to become numb at great speed
“I’m glad it finally worked.”

“What.. are.. you..”
“Why...?”

Mai: Sakuta, you did well.
Sakuta: I’m… still..
Mai: You worked really hard for my sake.
Sakuta: ...wrong!
Mai: That’s why, it’s enough.
Sakuta: ...shit…
Mai: Still, thank you for the everything until today.
Mai: And sorry.
Mai: Please sleep well.
Mai: Good night, Sakuta.

/ It’s okay.

“Hey, you lot!”, he roars very loudly. “Listen well!”
All students and teachers abandon their test activities and swarm near windows
(Very dorama-like scene)
(I think in RL no one would give a shit except for a silently cursing those damn normalfags.
Tests are gods in the Asia, after all)

“I, 2nd year, 1st class, seat number 1, Azusagawa Akuta, confess my love to the 3rd year, 1st class, Sakurajima Mai-senpai!”

Author is officially a legendary troll.

Nanamiya Tsugumi's art has come a long way, I'm quite surprised.

I don't know if it's because there's two artists and Tsugumi can just put all that much more focus on character details while Mizoguchi does backgrounds or whatever, but it's extremely pleasing to see these Tsugumi's detailed art in something that isn't a doujin.
