It seems the author is just incapable of keeping a comedy going. The "prequel" ended the same way: start as a dumb-ass perverted comedy, then end up as dumb-ass teen angst love story. This one seems to be following suit.

Also you say they are older, but it is just a continuation from the last one.

I'm upset at how the author "upgrade" Misaki. I totally approve Kyouko upgrade though.

You are mistaken TS, the original sound effect was obviously "PWNED", although an alternate translation could have been "REKT"

I'd say it's a vocal minority.
They upped their game from basically childish jokes to more adult ones, because they're older.
However, I assume volume 4 might be the last one...
Edit: Strangely enough, there are twice as much people following the sequel than the original, even though most of the comments are negative.

I really do not like this imouto character at all, she's just a terrible girl so far. I say this as an imouto fan in most cases. I hope she mellows out or karma gets her back good since based of the title I know she won't go away until this series is done.
I still don't know why Gorou's blood-related older sister has that kind of list on her
