Description: | Two prisoners managed to escape after the police truck carrying them crashed on the highway. One of them , Mr Sawazaki is a gangster who has sent 10 opposite bosses to hospital. The other called "You" - our protagonist - is a con artist whose cheating profile has piled up to approximately 100 billion yen. Accidentally, "You" then becomes the new teacher for the nearby junior high school, under the new name Takeda Shindo, and according to a deal of "Hammer Session" with the headmaster. The story is about a teacher who has a past record as a con-artist. It has its own unique taste, which makes it distinctive from other series about teachers, such as GTO and Gokusen. That could be the case too because VN scan doesn't explicitly said yen currency. I'll have to look up for that
I think there was a similar millions mistake in an earlier chapter with the mom's diamond ring, she says it's worth 100 million yen, which is way too much unless you're one of the richest people in the world.
Yes, it was actually 280 thousands, I was stupid enough to mistake it to millions Thanks for informing
/updated a fix version
Thanks for finishing the scanlation for us!! But, uh, in that last chapter...
280 *million* police officers? That's more cops than citizens of the entire country ; Was this an error in the original version, or a translation error? Could it have actually meant 280 thousand (28-"man")?
It should be a high school in a different place I think.
He mentioned on the last page that he is going to be doing that as well
Between him and Koro-sensei, I surmise the best teachers have a criminal past.
Don't really like the end but what a ride this manga was! The ship has still not landed but there is still the high school version.
Thank you for the translation RonBWL and Hatigram!
Ah, that was kind of anti-climatic but fun nonetheless, thanks so much for finishing this!
and wait you are doing the sequel too? Thats awesome! Cant wait!
According to MAL their are only 96 chapters so the next should be the last.
Now the only question is if Hatigarm Scans or some other group plans to do the sequel Hammer Session! in High School
woah some of the comments are really long and I like to discuss about opinions but I just to lazy to read them. Maybe later
Next chapter should be the last one?
Just 3 more huh, never thought i would ever see this finished seeing as it had a mere 30 chapters for a long long time lol
kudos!
Actually the concept varies and doesn't have to be "enhancing the bad" - for example he encouraged Kurosawa to stand up to his mom by mean of survival life, help proving Inogaya's innocence by turning the witness' statement around - the point of Hammer Session is solving people's problem using his knowledge as a swindler to grasp on people's mind and determine the best course to set them straight again.
I see that you're not quite happy with the intended ending, but there is a reason behind him coming back, and while it's not the best, it's not the worst either.
This is exactly why I suggest he goes through absolutely no change. At the moment, there is literally no way to solve it under the current setting without something breaking. Him somehow deus ex machina-ing the investigation to escape would actually be the least damaging thing to happen, just south of him skipping town after revealing his identity. In fact, the idea of him skipping town after revealing his identity would actually be the absolutely best ending to the story BECAUSE it fits the motif perfectly.
All hammer sessions work like this:
-flaw causes character to do a bad thing,
-hachisuka escalates that bad thing to the absolute max,
-character realizes that the bad thing is wrong and stops before they get punished
-Hachisuka introduces a solution to the original flaw
-character permanently changes for good.
If we suppose having no family is the flaw, swindling is the problem, and his surroundings are the solution, then because he is in a dead lock of losing his solution no matter what because he took it too far, it would serve as a perfect example of what he was trying to accomplish with the kids by stopping them. Because he took it too far, his punishment is losing his surroundings. Going to jail would be a way for punishment, but it also doesn't fit it thematically with the rest of the series. This is why I must rule it out as bad.
That won't work. He's an escaped convict to begin with, AND the cops already confirmed his identity following last arc. Unlike with the newspaper, it's not possible to trick the police or buy them altogether - they know where he is and they know he is the wanted man.
And no, he DOES have flaw, mainly his devil side when drunk and the ever naive-around-girls personality.
All the hammer sessions to this point revolved around solving a flaw that his students had that led them into the situation they were in. Hachisuka has no flaw, he is an incredibly flat character in that respect. Because of this, any attempt at a hammer session would break the concept of one and weaken the entire premise of the story.
Why do I still read it? Because I've enjoyed it up into now, and nothing suggests that the ending I've stated could not happen. It is just the way the author hinted at what is going to happen made the other endings also a possibility.
I'm not gonna spoil it for you, but tell me Mr. Genius, if both endings are "bad taste" to you, WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU SUGGEST HIM TO DO HERE?
Seriously people, why bother reading if you find the chapters not as good as you want/expect 'em to? Just drop it, it's still not too late.
Alternatively, having the students save him would also leave just as bad a taste in the mouth. It would essentially be a reverse hammer session with him as the subject. While fitting, would be entirely and wholely unrealistic in this otherwise accurate modern setting.
I feel like some more troublesome stuffs is coming along this way.
I said "even if it's axed", there is no confirmation and most people will agree it's not. But some are stubborn enough to not accept it since the arcs are not up to their "standard" so they blame the author for "rushing" it. Then again, this is a matter of personal opinions, I have no saying.
