It could have used a timeskip epilogue. The thing is I also wish we got to see more of Mega. I thought it introduced and wasted too much time on all the side characters. It sucks it got axed.
One of my favorite mangas.
I disagree with a decent amount of the comments--I think that it was ended well, it's just not a stereotypical "happy ending". After all, mangaka is building to the ending for a solid 6-ish chapters. I'm a fan of the ending, and think that it's pretty reflective of being middle schoolers--they're trying to figure out who they are in life, the theme of the manga as expressed in the title. It's a very fitting ending given its thematic emphasis.
Shame the axe is strong on this one. Overall great story, and lots of nice lovely moments.
I can just second that
A shame the ending was so bland. It seems the axe was a hard one this time around.
this manga is not that bad for a relatively short manga. I had kind of hoped there was a bit more to the story but overall its good manga
Damn, I know it's girly but when the story gets a happy ending I get so pleased that I can not judge it correctly... Everybody is saying that the ending is shit, but it cheered me on so much that I can't say anything bad about it
ch19. I'm not sure how I missed the last chapter when I was following it. Now I can't remember exactly why I don't like Kagetora. Anyway the final chapter felt too nice like the story skipped to the resolution... and the last few pages felt like cliche.
Well, everyone's complaining, but I really enjoyed it! I was a little surprised it ended so soon, but after reading the comments and seeing it was axed, I think that was a pretty good ending. My only complaint would be...
Thanks to Ciel scans for bringing this to us. While short, it was very enjoyable. It's a shame about the magazine change and such, but I think the ending was alright in spite of it.
kagetoruble
Loved it till chaper 13. From there on it tumbled downhill. I can´t believe the author pulled some Seo-third-wheel-drama-bs. I guess the fans agreed, for that is one axed ending. You don´t even get to know more about the side characters LOL.
I can´t believe this series turned from 5/5 to....to...ugh, it even hurts to say it. So much potential.
Still, thank you Ciel Scans, you pick great series to translate, too bad (IMO) this turned out.........ugh....like this...just damn
I get your point. It also has to do with their age. Given how young they are, that break could easily have made a massive difference in personality. She recognized her failure to respond properly to his feelings. She also recognized that her own feelings were growing, even if they weren't exactly at that level yet. She made the determination to accept the changes brought about by their feelings and decided to become a new person, a better one.
The symbolism is insanely deep and open to interpretation. I hate rushed endings, but I found this one to actually have wrapped up quite nicely given the circumstances.

P.S. Tokyo Reign gives another good interpretation. She wanted to move beyond the times that brought strain to their relationship. So, she cuts her hair and they spend time together just like they had back when they were kids. A nice way to hit a kind of "reset" button.
The axe falls. Boooo
It is true that that is what cutting-of-the-hair usually symbolizes. But what is the point? The MC's already liked each other for who they were. It felt like their personalities turned kind of bland just for the sake of a conclusive-feeling ending.
Not that I don't understand. Good endings are hard; rushed ones are harder. Still.
After reading some of the comments i figured I'd add my two cents in on it.
Though i agree there are still some loose ends that need to be tied up the ending i felt fit well. The reason she cut her hair was to symbolize her trying to change however i believe it had a larger significance. The two walking by the river where they first met hand in hand; her hair now being the same as when she was a child. Falling into the river and chasing vapor trails, all the above being how they met as children and the time they shared together.
I believe the author main point was to show us the MCs were going back to the beginning and starting over.
I guess it's not the worst given there wasn't much space, but it could've been better even with this number of pages.
so rushed
Haircut with an "axe" huh?
Well, the story got nothing to keep it running for that long since it has:
1. No ecchi
2. No harem
3. No famous authors name on it
and finally, went onto a semi-tragic route too fast with too little development. Considering the fact what gets the most reads nowadays made it already clear that if the author doesn't quickly turns this into something awesome it would end dead last and ready to get "axed".
wait, fin? no more sakurasaku? the story is at the end?!? it seems story just getting STARTED!! WTF WHY IS IT ENDING LIKE THIS!?
fine ending, but that haircut... Dunno if its the mc's drawing but it looks awful. Doesnt look anything like kagetora anymore, seems weak ...
It's also symbolic for her to show that she intends to change herself and is saying goodbye to the person she once was.

While I wish it had kept going it probably would have gotten too drama filled and cliche if it had. This was a good way to end and if we get a bonus chapter that has a setting of say..... high school graduation? I'd be extremely happy. All in all though, 5/5.
This scene kind of reminds me of "another manga"....
Nonetheless, a good end for a manga in a middle school setting
