Description: A Cruel God Reigns portrays the tale of two step-brothers - Jeremy and Ian, as they strive to discover their separate paths towards redemption.

Jeremy, a sensitive but out-going 17-year-old, is delighted to hear the news of his neurotic and excitable mother's remarriage to a wealthy British man. However, much to his horror, his sweet-talking new step-father Greg, soon begins to exhibit a disturbing trait...he is a sadistic pedophile and loses no time in making Jeremy his target. Months of horrific, systematic abuse drives Jeremy to desperation; and he sabotages his step-father's car with the hope of eliminating him. The resulting accident, however, kills his mother along with Greg.

Winner of the first Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize Award for Excellence.

Even if you don't like the ending, this manga is incredible, from it's realistic portrayal of abuse to it's amazing characters. And while I actually think that Ian is a well writen, conflicted character and that his relationship with Jeremy was interesting for the story, I by no means think that what he was doing was right and I also do not think he was a healthy person.

This story, though, is definately not about healthy people.

This is a realistic, tragic story that I appreciated (no matter how dramatic) from beginning to end, and not everything can end well. It ended as well as it could've.

Nobody reads this thing for the BL. This is about real human pain.

Shitty ending, my god. The guy wants to help him overcome his abuse...by abusing him further. Then they drag it out.

What a shame, the first half is so realistic and on point for abuse of a boy that age and his reactions. If you ignore everything with Ian in the second half it's one of the best looks at the subject in manga form.

Bazı şeylerini tanımlamanız için o at gözlüklerimizi çıkarıp atacak bi eser.

I didn't like the last half of the manga. Mainly because i don't like ian.

As good an ending as one could have hoped for.

carfish - otukaresama desita!

17 and considered shota? WTH! (Only read description)
It's the best portrayal of what happens to a person who has been sexually abused that I've ever read. I work with kids like Jeremy in real life.
thanks for update.
Literally leaves you breathless. It's so heartbreaking and horrible and depicts the psychological trauma one goes through after horrific abuse flawlessly. I can't find fault in anything. The art is beautiful.

@truepurple, it's true that the abuse seemed to drag on, but I also think that it's because it was dragged on for so long that it had as much impact on the readers. That's what makes it so horrible and heartbreaking, but through all of it you see the changes Jeremy goes through bit by bit.

I regret not picking up this series earlier.
T^T I want to cry whenever I seee him like that waaaaaa so sad....his life is ruined by his owner mother's whines!
I could only read this by jumping chapters, I feel it dragged on too much with the abuse to read completely. BTW for those who want to skip to the murder part and beyond the murder happens in chapter

Thanks for updates. A couple of chapters once a month? I can handle that
Agreed as well.
The story has a horrible subject that's rarely used in manga (i think). It's more realistic than most stories. I'm still at the beginning but I can't stop reading.

I agree - it is a really well done series on a really horrible subject but it handles what he goes through very well.
This series is amazing. Really amazing. It's heartbreaking, cruel, horrific, and makes me cry, but still amazing.
