Description: Otaku Sakamichi Onoda has just entered high school and plans to join the anime club. In middle school, Onoda didn’t have any friends with whom he could talk about anime, games, Akihabara and other otaku things, and he is hoping he can make such friends in the anime club, but he finds out it's been disbanded. In order to reestablish the club he tries to find 4 other people who would like to join.

Since he was a little boy, Onoda has ridden his mamachari–a bulky bicycle with a step-through frame mainly used for short rides, such as for casual fun or to pick up groceries–to go to Akihabara every week to check out or buy otaku things. Fellow freshman Shunsuke Imaizumi and bicyclist, while training, notices a boy (Onoda) riding his mamachari up a steep road.

Freshman and road racing cyclist, Shokichi Naruko visits Akihabara to get some Gundam plastic models for his younger brothers and meets Onoda who catches his attention because of the his cycling skill on the mamachari and later find out they go to the same school. Later on, both Naruko and Imaizumi try to convince him to join the bicycle racing club, but will he?

Scanlation team sure is working hard!  To keep ahead of the anime and get as much out as possible before batoto goes down, I guess.  Thanks, as always! :)

Huh, so the Love Hime OP lyrics are written from the perspective of a girl?  A girl singing about her love for flatchest loli.  ... ok....

lol, so were they able to escape because everyone was too distracted laughing at them to regulate themselves?

Hm, Manami is pretty chill while Yuuto gets to go have fun with his rival.  Well, Manami got to win the climb on day 1, and I guess Toudou's programming on How To Groom Your Destined Rival didn't quite take with him, anyway.

I finally understood this Odd feeling I was getting from this work. MC is just very 'unorganised' mentally and it lot of times feel like his 'love' of bicycle racing is small willed.

Like he can only go into action only when it's to 'protect' someone and when he is given a task (and when he was in slump, he could not even do that).

There isn't enough will of his own... After ca. 170 chapters there isn't enough progression of his character, supposedly getting over his slump was the progression that having enough will to fulfill the task and now to racing the 'battle'.

But that 'battle/duel' again ended up being to 'protect' the task....

I am hoping for more progression in terms of character for Onoda, of his wilnes, because at this point he is like a 'plot device' and other characters like Young Shinkai making more of impact, because they have more will of their own, a strive for greatness.

Well, yeah, Onoda was never an ambitious character in the first place.  Onoda's drive was based on him wanting to have friends (remember how Imaizumi got him to race him in the first place?  Remember he had no intentions of joining the road racing club until it became absolutely clear that he wasn't going to be able to make the anime club?), not about wanting to win, so of course his motivations are still about doing things for the sake of the team.  Even after winning he had no clue about the implications of that for himself.  I don't see him becoming ambitious in itself as the natural path for his character growth, it's more... he should have more self-confidence, be less useless dealing with the kouhai, things like that.  And of course, be able to recognize what should be done "for the team" without having everything spelled out by his teammates and being in a crisis situation, but that's for adding tension, I guess.

The other problem is that Onoda was really too OP for year 1, for a series that's actually going to cover all 3 years of high school.  He was a n00b who went on to win the interhigh, and that's not even all he did last year.  The mangaka has to slow him down a bit even if it's in personally annoying ways, otherwise why wouldn't we just expect him to win everything again.  They have to leave something for next year, too.

I can see how some people would want a MC to be more strongly characterized, but in general I think it's beneficial (artistically and commercially) for the mangaka to be able to get people interested in other characters, including opponents, although I suppose YWPD's case is slightly imbalanced.

I COULDNT STOP LAUGHING HELP

I would have strangled Kaburagi so many times now.  Poor Aoyagi.  Such are the burdens of being a sempai... or something like that.  Aoyagi sure has lots to say, though, it just rarely externalizes.  "Was there an unusual bug or something?" gosh he's sarcastic, so sad no one around has the wits to appreciate it.

Here comes power of Hime hime anime song .

Just get that animation haha xD

HJKSHAGD HIME NA NO DA GADDAMIT I WASNT EXPECTING THAT AT ALL HDJAJSAJD

HJKSHAGD HIME NA NO DA GADDAMIT I WASNT EXPECTING THAT AT ALL HDJAJSAJD

The member selection for the IH never made sense in either year (even if the result was good for year 1, the conditions made no sense--srsly, the first years were handicapped during training camp, and they had to win against T2 who iirc weren't handicapped and could cooperate with each other, and if T2 had won Sohoku would really have gone to the IH as 5?  Really????)  But at least this idiot is amusing as a devotee of the God of Orange Beena and all.

By the way.... Was there any reason why Imaizumi couldn't catch up, like The tall dude from HG?  I understand Kuroda pushed the ace, but was that really enough that Imaizumi couldn't come close?  Close enough to give Naruko that same push?

Ashikiba only caught up because he was pushed, because Naruko/Midousuji were otherwise too far ahead, so there's no way Imaizumi could catch up on his own so he could push Naruko.  Besides, he probably lost some momentum not running over Kuroda, maybe.

The thing is....  They all were at the 4 day training camp, so why did Kubaragi not show weakness there?  I guess nerves and stress added to it, plus maybe it was much hotter at the IH than the training camp.

I'm not sure how long the IH is, but the training camp was 1000 KM?

The IH is ~300km, I guess, because the 2nd day (for both IH so far) has been the longest and has been a little over 100km or something each time.  It doesn't seem to be just about distance, considering Tadakoro also had a random breakdown last year.

Well they were in the lead, and facing each other last year.  It was the last race to beat Tadakoro, so Naruko didn't want to lose out (granted they had 2 more days to battle too).  It was also 2 Shohoku, and one Hakone, they didn't need to team up.

This time it's 2v2, and it's the Ace/Ace Assist.  They are a combo team that has won every race this year, so Shohoku knows they cannot just fight each other, and need to combine their strength.  Remember, they are only cooperating "until we reach the goal" meaning until they can see it, and then go all out in order to grasp 1st.

I'm saying that it's not Naruko's personality to team up.  The Sohoku sprinters sent out this year for the sprint checkpoint teamed up because, well, they're not good enough to win otherwise (and they couldn't win even after teaming up), but Naruko wasn't even willing to team up with a teammate.  And he and Tadakoro weren't in the lead against Izumida, either; after he bothered to show up, Izumida was winning until the traffic cones blew over and Naruko/Tadakoro took the risk of serious injury and got ahead of him when he evaded them.  If Naruko's not going to team up with a teammate, he's not teaming up with an opponent (unless it's a situation like the start of day 3 last year, which is very different from being near a goal, and it was an order from the sempai anyway).  Meanwhile, apparently Imaizumi would (but probably not if it's Midousuji, because lol).

EDIT: although, of course last year he wasn't ordered to assist Tadakoro, they were both just supposed to go for it as a show of strength.  If he were told that his role were to assist Tadakoro I guess Naruko would have done it, even if he probably would have complained (he complained a bit this year about not getting to try for the sprint checkpoint, after all).  Kaburagi wouldn't complain about being made to assist Aoyagi anyway, he doesn't even know he's a sprinter.  (Well, he complained about being made to go, but that's because he thinks it's not the job of an all-rounder, not because he wanted to try for the sprint checkpoint on his own.)

EDIT2: even though he and Tadakoro both wanted to win the sprint checkpoint for themselves last year, they still had the option to cooperate to a certain point before both going for it, but their confidence/ego meant they avoided doing so.  It's actually kind of lame/shameful to me that they had Aoyagi-Kaburagi team up how they did.  Lower-ranked teams didn't even do that, as far as we can tell.  I think they just should have had Naruko go (even as an all-rounder), and others could have pulled the team until Naruko (probably) won.  I don't see why Naruko needed to be the one pulling Sohoku at that time in the first place; as convention went, the pack was not going to run ahead of Sohoku, and even after the sprint checkpoint was won, the school that won would have initial priority.  Naruko could have rested by being pulled for most of the rest of day 1, he probably would have recovered quite a bit by the end.  But I guess Teshima wished that Aoyagi could win the checkpoint.  It's their last year to win anything significant, after all (even though Aoyagi has won first in various races already).

"Want to cooperate until we reach the goal?" uh, Naruko didn't even cooperate with Tadakoro last year....

Aoyagi show what kind of man you are and help Kaburagi .

Well as for Kaburagi the reason for him to get in race is to help him to experience in high race.

Kuga is 3rd year and won't be there next year.

It doesn't matter what happens "next year" this is the here and now, and you should use your best power.  I'm still laughing at the bull of Teshima beating Kuga... but whatever.

That logic is basically saying 3rd years should never compete in their "last race on the "best stage of them all."

If you want experience, let them race throughout the year, not on the last race of the season....  Because then you get shit like this....

THIS FUCKING KID (redux)

Huh.  So cats really do bounce.  What a cheat, Kuroda. >.>

Can we just sub in Kuga already... This first year is super annoying and a non-factor.

Kaburagi you are one that are idiot lol xD

... I could kill that kid.

... ok, Onoda screwed up sometimes last year (and this year) as well but miraculously saved himself (and the team) each time (well, one time Arakita saved him), but somehow I wonder if Kaburagi could possibly pull it together.

I love how Teshima is constantly telling Kaburagi to use the "san". Probably he wants to stay calm but on the inside he is like "Show some respect to my boyfriend and use "san" you sh***y first-year!"

i thought there was a new update... too bad its just reupload...

FIVE CHAPTER UPDATE YAY

I was waiting for Shinkai Yuuto to... get to do something.  Guess day 2 something will happen!  lol, he's not that reverent about aniki at all.  How do they abbreviate zugyun...?  Maybe just ZGN is fine....

Thank you for the update, Yowapeda Fan Scans!

Lookin' forward to Shinkai and Onoda battle.

I was hoping it was Midosuji who met his mom, because he's a momma's boy and wearing a "Best Boy" hate would be ironic lol. Midosuji is my favorite chara.

big updates...

Many tears shed for Naruko.  The whole "I gotta win no matter what" for the 3 of them... was silly.

I find the results to be pretty sad/silly how it went down, but that will fuel the others to do better in the next 2 days.

I understand that the Mangaka is not trying to involve multiple elements, i.e., students from the same school, into the mix, but I feel Imaizumi should have had more of a role/impact at the end there.

SUB KUGA IN ALREADY!!!!!!!

Spoiler

After chapter 344, I thought it might not take 4 more chapters to end day 1, BUT SOMEHOW I WAS RIGHT ABOUT HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE orz

Nearly.

Short by 1 chapter. >.>;;;

346: Midousuji's flirting with Naruko now... tease.  It's interesting how Imaizumi's sort of matured beyond his own fixation on Midousuji, and he's, uh, supportive of Naruko's (admittedly healthier rivalry).

347: oh, Midousuji's alternate battle cry

Midousuji thinks of honing himself for the win as paring himself down to the essentials

Naruko thinks of it as accumulating... something

348: uhhhh, hopefully Imaizumi's intuition (I'm just gonna call it a lack of recklessness) meant he didn't get caught up with Kuroda's stunt.  Well.  Cats bounce, usually.

Kuroda, it's Day 1, was that actually worth it...

I wanted to update till the goal but that chapter is not done yet and Im leaving tomorrow on a trip so I thought of doing a triple update for my temporary abscence.

small spoiler (about how many people will take the goal):
