The objects are predicted and the disasters contained, so the RUMs are largely ignored by the public. Under this incredible backdrop, the ordinary Seita Tooki has just been confessed to by his lifelong enemy, Awayuki Kujou. Before he can give her a proper reply, a RUM unexpectedly descends, surveys the situation, and proceeds to kill him, as well as the entire city nearby as collateral damage. As it turns out, the Ray Ring above is apparently home to 7 billion "Grim Reapers", nearly all of whom seek to deny their newfound love. |

Wow, what a cockblock on the universal scale...
Was expecting a nice romantic one shot, instead got a serialized chuuni bullshit
Oh, I personally don't question MC's philosophy at all. Having this kind of arrogance will, I think, bring the friction with our main female lead eventually, though. That's why the reapers do not believe in their love?
Oh... maybe she'll start to hate both sides of the grim for "forcing" this on them...
But which to hare more... the part that wants them together... or the majority that wants them apart...? Lol
It's more that he hates that strong-willed part of her that won't let her enjoy a simple ice cream bar like every other kid, just out of dislike that she might get a "Lose" and feel bad about it. I expect she may have more internal struggles like that in the future, and maybe her coming to terms with that part of her will be in her character development.
But she wasn't picking on the bully right? She was trying to get an apology. Would you prefer she just cry and wait for the MC to save her thus fulfilling the cliche of the damsel in distress and the white knight? If the girl went overboard, instead of outright antagonizing her as someone who's wrong for fighting back against a bully, wasn't it better for him to mediate between them while stating the facts that the girl is justified and the bully should apologize? Protecting the weak is fine IF the weak are in the right. As others have already mentioned, the weak aren't always right and the strong aren't always wrong. The weak should get fair treatment in regards with how cases are handled but people shouldn't automatically side with weak people purely due to the fact that they're antagonizing someone stronger than them. It echoes the BS argument of those people who use the gender or race card to get out of a hole they themselves dug.
Why do people hate the MC's philosophy? I agree that the MC's belief is a caricature of responsible leadership, but I can't help but like it. After all, I believe that it's the responsibility of the strong to protect the weak. That's why we have bosses, CEOs, managers, etc. Because by giving those people with greater ability greater responsibility, you get a more efficient--and more civil--society.
Of course, the immediate counter-argument to this are those CEOs, managers, etc. who either exploit their subordinates or don't do jack shit. And the immediate counter to that is that those people are sometimes fired. We feel anger when those people who are in a position of power misuse that power, and this can (but not always, unfortunately) lead to a change in leadership. The weak need benevolent leaders to avoid being bullied by malevolent leaders. That's just fact.
The funny thing to me, at least, is that the MC's view is incredibly arrogant. He implicitly believes that those who are weak can't do crap without the help of the strong. I like that. The arrogance is nice. At least the MC has the balls to have a strong belief.
That's not even remotely what he said. He said "The strong have a duty to protect the weak". AKA Noblesse Oblige. In fact, he even mentions that she's right, but that what she's DOING is wrong because it's picking on the weak. Sure, he's got a wierd way of saying it, but he's not saying the weak are right. Maybe instead of going with your kneejerk psuedo-intellectualism, you should actually bother to pay attention to what's actually written?
The weak are those who in simplified terms are less able to enact and express their will upon the world. This is not necessarily through any fault of their own, and oftentimes has much to do with outer aspects that they cannot control (birth place, sickness, availability of local idols, etc.).
Conversely helping the poor can help with giving you an educated populace, compared with ignoring the weak and allowing them to drink or work themselves to death*, which in the long run allows the workforce to become more specialised.
The core principle though is that everyone should be ensured equal opportunity, and from there be able to do the most with it. Of course some will succeed and some won't, but the important part is that people are allowed to compete on equal terms.
John Rawls is one of the more influential figures in philosophy on the subject, and if you are interested in learning I'd recommend giving him a read.
*The daily life of the poor has its own genre in Sweden that directly translates to "Worker authors". It offers quite the horrifying reads, and it is a wonder how we have managed to get to where we are today in such a short period of time. So when I said "drink or work themselves to death" I mean it literally.
Now that you say it, I do see it now. Yeah, likes the weak Awayuki. He doesn't necessarily really hate the strong Awayuki though, but hates when she acts strong, which makes it hard for him to protect her or make sure that she's okay?
This selfish reasoning will become major friction in their relationship? This basically makes it that only suposedly he can take care of her and not the other way around.
I personally think that this would be too obvious. We have seen it many times before.
Since the grim reapers are maybe traveling trough time, she's a grim reaper that knows them from some other timeline?
please re-read page 83~84,
the translation on page 83 is 'I hate that...' (the strong part of her) ;
what he loves (page 84) is the weak part of her (that he influenced earlier in the chapter) was 'earnest in her happiness at getting the win'
I don't blame you for making the mistake though, because I think this chapter's concept of 'weak' and 'strong' is too abstract to non-Japanese. The wording of this chapter is also unnatural, though I don't blame the translators because some Japanese concepts just don't translate that well.
Like some other people have mentioned, this type of MC can be very annoying: right now I don't like MC, and I feel like the main couple is a bad match.
I think this prediction about the anomaly may be correct:
Ain't 7 billion (give or take half a billion) the current population of the Earth? So basically, there's a grim reaper for each person alive. What a bloated organization.
It's time to kill six billion demons
>the weak are right because they are weak
dropped and 1 star right there. this mindset is ruining the world. instead of supporting the right, support the weak till they overthrow the strong than support the ex strong against the tyrany of the ex-weak in an endless loop of conflict. war moengering under a vail of justice and morals.
makes me sick.
This is a good guess.
The only anomaly becomes of the one reaper who believes in their love... What would her motivation be?
Yet...
So personally I don't see him influencing her to make weak decisions due to this. But there i the chance he might influence some bad(I think there's a difference?) decisions, not because he influences her to be weak, but because she listens to him. He makes her decisions suit his own selfish version of "protecting the weak". Essentially he might use her, knowingly or unknowingly for his own agenda.
A romance driven action series?!
Was expecting romcom but im definitely okay with this.
Interesting, this is like what happens in every romance comedy manga. When the MC ends up with a girl, there will be a ~7 billion death threats come from the universe.
So I guess I can expect a new love interest(s) with several Rums backing their route.
Don't forget the male grim that could come visit her trying to convince her she'd be better with them.
You could even throw in male grims making attempts to whoo him... depending in how it's handled, it'd be great to see...
The silce-of-life vibrant from the earlier part of the pilot chapter is really warming. the vanilla of their innocence; The slight misinterpretation of their own feeling due to immaturity until one caught up and profess, clearing the mist that hide the truth that they have been sharing all of those years. The unfolding of development could just straight up wrap the story for a decent love story oneshot without all the sci-fi setting.
it certainly feel good to see a heroine that didn't just fall in love out of the blue and an mc that wasn't cheap on picking up things for character development. The later part of the pilot did heavily indicate that there will an ongoing action-theme later, which hopefully won't overshadow the romance aspect of the story because it was the deal-sealer for me imo.
Do not underestimate a manga editor's capacity to ruin absolutely everything.
Watch all the grim reapers be cute girls with each one fulfilling specific trope niches and they all try to seduce him to make his love fall apart but then they all end up falling love with the MC along the way "because he's nice/kind/weak/whatever" while main girl gets shafted plotwise but still manages to clutch a win in the end anyway (assuming no harem route) despite being reduced to another one-dimensional character like all the rest.
Yes I'm jaded.
Followed so hard.
A shounen-manga MC managed to get the girl in the first chapter, and didn't go full Nisekoi.
Well that was neat. This is a story I see not going on for very long, but I hope it gets enough chapters so it doesn't feel rushed.
Y i was thinking about this manga as well.
But 7B grim reapers is wayyy better for now. Sekai-ka is just crap.
