The former you could be right about.  There's a japanese light novel series "Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria" where the MC (on several occasions) ends up reliving the same day over and over again, which causes him to be happy, then soon realize that he's in a time loop, then do everything he can think of to end it, then go insane and give up hope, which causes him to eventually forget everything and be happy, then soon realize . . .

 

Point is, Xiao Yun could definitely be in his own time loop trying to find the "good ending", and having gone through it so much he's gone insane and forgot his original self, thinking he's a reincarnated person from another world.

What if both of them are actually the same person?

The other one (the one that Pigsy knew in his first life) is the result of our Main Character repeating the same life over and over and over.

He already knew about the lightning blocking him and tried to blurt out something before it would strike him.

 

But it could still be that the two are different people, and he is a person of that world who is repeating lives who learned about the lightning when it blocked him from mentioning info from past lives.

I'm sorry, but could you explain a bit more? I feel like over the long reading period I've forgotten something and am utterly lost at what the hell just happened.

Really, reading this just makes me wish I knew how to make cosplay or clothes

Just read the whole thing for the first time in one go and wow, I did not expect this level of plot intricacy from the super silly first few chapters! I love how even when the author goes back over old events again and again, little details and perspectives are continually added to flesh out the story. I'm reminded of those speed drawing videos where the artwork slowly takes form with layers and layers of colors and effects; just when you think it's done and already beautiful, the artist adds another thing and it's even better. I'm full to bursting with keeping it all straight, but also really fulfilled.

I can see, though, that if updates get infrequent, my memory of "what happened when" will unravel very quickly. It's also going to be difficult to find a particular spot to go back and reread because the story jumps back and forth so often. I still enjoyed this series immensely, much to my surprise!
