Gotta say, the Salvation game is the weakest game of Kaiji so far. Minimal strategy. Minimal tactics. Maximum cheating/manipulation/rule changing. The only thing that saves it from being completely average is the side stories that the author put great effort into writing. Once you've gotten halfway through this arc, lots of chapters provide virtually 10 seconds of real world time passing and very little psychological or character development since everything is established. Then skipping a dozen chapters several times will make you miss nothing at all since everything comes down to the very end. Unlike 17 step minefield mahjong where the entire story is relevant the whole way through.

Good:

1. The trio backstories were good

2. The sword is mighter than love story was good

Bad:

1, Rich boy's novel idea is terrible

2. His character sucks balls compared to the gambling casino president minefield game. At least that guy knew he was a cheater. This rich bitch has allfuenza syndrome

3. Kaiji doesn't do shit. I expected him to see the rich kid's device manipulating the Salvation game and trick the dude.

4. The entire game was a setup to give Kaiji setup for the One Poken Hen game + reduce his winnings to an even number.

Part 4 is now complete! The series is now continuing in Part 5, One Poker Hen! http://vatoto.com/comic/_/comics/tobaku-datenroku-kaiji-one-poker-hen-r14151

FKMTkrazy, THANK YOU FOR BRINGING YET ANOTHER ARC TO COMPLETION !!!!!

Just hoping that in a future arc

Spoiler

Little does Kaiji know, those two have been working with Kazuya this whole time.

That would mean the whole Salvation Game was fake, wouldn't it? Just a ruse to get Kaiji to doubt friendship? All the emotions and blood and stuff was fake? In that case, what if Kaiji hadn't

Thanks for translate Kaiji!!!

I have to admit, I did not see that plot twist.  Both Kazuya and Kaiji lose while one of the three stooges wins ultra hard and the other two simply win a consolation prize.  Time to see how the battle between a belief system that has been cracked does against "yea I saved two lifes... but did it have to cost me my money!!!"

During the next gamble, this might be setting up for Kazuya discovering true friendship and having him become an ally for Kaiji in the upcoming battles against Kazuya's father.

That would be amazing. Too bad it'll take like 10 chapters to get past the 1st turn of whatever they're about to do...

There's something wonderful in the fact that FKMT considers pizza and KFC to be luxuries on par with the refinement of wine, women, and blowfish.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing kazuya this angered <3 Serves you right

I cannot belief that I am getting enjoyment from seeing Kaji go from greed is not worth it to "but it's my money" mode.  I think that I am starting to relate with Kazuya which makes me think "I like this but I don't think that I am suppose to like this. Damn IT!!!"

i hate to say it, but kazuya has a point. "the winner's friends will die" is part of the 'prize' for winning, along with the money.  either its part of the prize or kazuya has 'bought' the winner's friends' deaths in exchange for the prize money.  as such, the idea that kaiji can buy their "ensured deaths" from kazuya or the winner isn't that absurd an idea. it doesn't necessarily need to be the full 70million yen though, since kazuya says kaiji will be paying the winner, that means kaiji should be able to bargain with the winner to purchase his friend's lives for whatever he thinks they're worth, be it 1 yen or 70 million yen.

Pfft, I find it funny that the last 9 chapters are going to be pretty much Kaiji wondering if he's a hypocrite or not, I hate to say it, but Kazuya did make a good point for once.

It's nothing to do with it being long and dragged out, the problem I'm having is that literally the most Kaiji has done in 9 volumes is beg him not to press the button in the latest chapters. I came here to read about Kaiji and this is 90 chapters of him being a spectator, if Kaiji was one of the 3 hobos playing the button pressing game I'd have a lot less in the way of problems with the arc. My biggest other problem is Kazuya constantly cheating just to force the result he wants.

Right about now though we might as well rename this manga to Tobaku Datenroku Ching Chang Chong: Kazuya-Hen after the real 3 MCs of this part or whatever their names were; Kaiji himself could have died in a ditch in chapter 1 and the difference to the plot would have been fairly negligible.

What is so special about kaji?  For me it is that he takes me to gaming worlds that have insane rules and punishments.  Kaji as a character... why is he so interesting to you?  To me Kaji is a character who is addicted to gambling when he is forced into it and if he  is not, then he would be ok living as a neet.  His morals are gray as in he is willing to change is beliefs on something if his life is in danger.  What do you see in Kaji that makes him so interesting to watch (do you never tire of seeing Kaji's scared face?)?  If Kaji was the one on the chair it would of made the game worse.  You would already know that Kaji would either win due to being the main character (any game that Kaji plays that involves "die if you lose"  leads to him winning due to being a main character).  In this game I honestly did not know if the three stooges would live or die since I knew that either path would lead to a Kaji vs Kazuya (another crazy game to explore).

Looking at the volume cover, I expect at least 10 chapters involving pushing the cancel button.

Are you guys new to Kaiji? Don't you remember an entire season devoted to about 4 games of Rock Paper Scissors? Or perhaps the several episodes playing a dice game.

Or perhaps a dozen+ episodes devoted to playing Pachinko?

I mean what was it, 4-5 episodes to cross a single steel beam?

Sure it's a bit long (although personally I think Kazuya is one of the FAIREST villains so far) but I'm actually enjoying it due to the interactions between Kaiji and Kazuya and testing of his inner beliefs. I can see while some people dislike it because Kaiji is more a viewer of what's going on instead of being the main protaganist though, but long dragging scenes is sort of what Kaiji is ABOUT.

Those Gambles you mentioned were nowhere near as bad and dragged out as the current one.Ironically you left out the Mahjong game which held the title of longest dragged out Kaiji game beforehand. But even that one had enough content to statisfy the reader and above all it actually features Kaiji doing stuff.

The Gamble is interesting enough, but simply does not offer enough Content to warrant an entire arc dedicated to it, It could be cut to 30% of its current chapters and you would get the exact same experience.

FKMT is a great writer but he can drag things so much. Like the Akagi manga for example. I agree with you.
Although I kinda like this arc. It's not as good as the 3 before it but there is something interesting about this "bet" that kaiji and kazuya made, but that's just my opinion.

I wonder why in chapter 90

Perhaps some are enjoying it but not everybody is, I'm practically having to drag myself through 3 chapters over a period of several days. The amount of talking and the plot crawling forward is surpassed only by how little of anything worthwhile Kaiji is doing. This arc isn't Kaiji overcoming great odds or anything gripping or clever like that, it's 3 hobos taking turns to press a button while Kazuya cheats endlessly, Kaiji screams endlessly and the narrator drones on endlessly.

Easily my least favourite Kaiji part so far.

Just imagine this being turned into an anime. An entire freaking season of watching them scream about pressing a button

I just now realized that this entire one game (from setting it up to now) has passed about 80 chapters.  I cannot for the life of me even being to comprehend just how much talking there must of been between each chapter for this to happen.  Goes to show for at least people like me that if the drama hooks you, then you will probable not notice just how slow the plot is moving.  I'm now curious to check if the past gambling games of Kaji lasted this long.

Dat CLAMP Kaiji.

Four new chapters, illustrating exactly what I hate about this current arc :|
