No adaption could EVER stand up to the epicness of the original VN. Tayutama is one of my all time favourite VN ever.

This is a supplement story, an alternate ending if you will. To better understand how the whole thing goes you better play the game as it takes the main plot from there. You can also reference from the anime as well, but unless you have seen either media, it would be quite difficult to swallow the manga plot.
