I do like this series but the whole "hypnosis has been perfected to work on all humans ~instantly but oh no supernatural powers aren't real" thing for this arc was still too silly.

I like how this plot seems to be evolving in an increasingly organic way.

Like I said in other posts, we already have enough evidence.

While yeah, you could try and create a theory where Kyuu is doing something wrong, and it would be absolutely outrageous and idiotic but it might pass, which is why the judicial system derserve my absolute hatred, because it allows for lawyers to go full retard, and the use of sophism becomes a valid defense in most cases. Even if "reason to commit a crime" is actually quite a strong evidence in it's own right.

Also this is a DETECTIVE manga and as far as detective work goes, the case has definitely been solved. THis rebutal of yours, is only valid in court and only if we have an incompetent Judge, due to maaaaaany reasons that prove Kyu's character.

Sorry, I want to continue this debate. You're touching upon a moral dilemma: Is it better to convict someone when you're almost sure, or is it better to let a potential criminal go free if there is no absolute certainty? 

There have been many instances where people have been wrongly accused and imprisoned due to "suggestive" evidence, and conversely there have most probably been many cases were culprits have escaped. That's why these detective mangas actually always try to find conclusive evidence. If you've read this manga as well as detective Conan, they can delay the conclusion by a chapter or two just to find that conclusive evidence so that there can be no doubt. That is also why I immediately reacted when this in fact wasn't conclusive. There are probably more cases in detective manga that I have missed that wasn't conclusive, but hey, just pointing this out here.

 

As Sherlock (Conan Doyle) said: "Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth." Conversely, no matter how improbable, it can be the truth. In fact, if the detectives would dig a bit deeper, they would actually realize that Kyu has a connection with this detective. So there could potentially be a motive to frame him. Just saying. If you only rely on what sounds right, sooner or later someone innocent is gonna take the hit.

We know that he has no reason, because we get fed the story from his point of view. The other characters in the story have no clue if Kyu has ulterior motives or not. You're talking about "making sense", but I'm talking about evidence. Evidence is raw facts, while "making sense" is using these facts to deduce something. Right now, the evidence suggests that the Detective is the culprit, but there is no evidence that without doubt points to him. As I said before, if the detective would deny all accusations, the legal system wouldn't be able to convict him without further evidence.

Because there's no such possiblilty, at all.

He has no reason to do that, if there's no reason for a crime, there's no crime.

It may be circunstancial evidence, but until the investigators find or fabricate a clue, there's nothing that ties Kyu with anybody there, hence there's little to no chance for him to fabricate clues in order to blame someone unfairly. And even if he did, knowing that the Detective was once a student of DDS, it makes even less sense for him to blame said detective, he would have blamed someone else.

I was hoping for this twist! This is indeed the best usage of English in a Japanese manga--total ambiguity with regards to individual words!

Why are you speculating about me? I'm trying to be objective here. We're talking about a detective manga and about proof and evidence. If there is doubt about validity, it's reasonable to question it. Maybe our conclusion afterwards align with the author's, or maybe not, but it should be examined. And Bloody Sorcerer, no harsh feelings ok? I just want to discuss the arc's conclusion. Whether I'm right or wrong is less important, as long as we're objective.

I think you're saying exactly the same thing as me, but drawing the opposite conclusion. Or maybe you're using another definition of "proof". I'm using it, just as Kyu is, in the legal sense. All of the facts you have stated does not exclude the possibility that Kyu might have planted evidence and is lying.

And he DOES have evidence for that, his fingerprints are still proof, had he been out for even more days, those fingerprints would have disappeared. Or what you think fingerprints are eternal? Depening on the surface, the usage of the object, the humidity of the place where the object was, and even the temperature, fingerprints can last either months or a couple of days, needless to say that those rooms are cleaned by the people who rent them. Given the fact that the detective was using room 10 for his plans, which means he had to leave it spotless for it to resemble room 12, you can be certain that Kyu couldn't be there before the murder took place.
