I have to wonder though, how much of this is the artist, Himura Kiseki, and how much is the Progressive novels. I've read a few of the Progressive novels and they're..... mediocre as usual. Better than his first work by far, but this manga is something else. Himura's art adds SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much to the experience.

Interesting, I read the progressive light novel and just read the manga adoption. I prefer the light novel much more and I feel the manga's pacing and story telling isn't very smooth.

Naw, Kizmel's sister is talked about and referenced by her a few times in Vol 2 and 3 of Progressive, but yeah, the work is still mediocre, but eh, still better than the original and helps to fill in some holes that were desperately deep even if only a little.

to be fair up till a bit ago it was wrote a few years ago as a ME so it can't be helped

I don't really understand what they are trying to say with "overly realistic". Are they just being jealous because Asuna is pretty?

come on Asuna don't be like that ... you can be tsun tsun at the start because you don't know each other

but that was totally on you ... at least throw him a fruit, not the friggin' bowl!!

20 pages per month seems kind of short...

Holy shit, it's almost like this guy actually played an mmo in the intervening years between first writing SAO and writing this. Getting jealous about your friends having op weapons is actually something that an mmo player would feel.

Is Kirito still a solo player?

The Progressive series was started in 2012, whereas the rest of the series (including the ongoing arc, Alicization) were more or less thought out by the early 2000s. The first volume details the first floor and second floor's clearing, and the former of which was adapted into the anime (the LN series only does the first day of floor one).

The author probably thought it'd be boring to keep on going solo, as a single character grinding (at one point supposedly for 18-20 hours a day) wouldn't be interesting. Moreover, it's harder to rationalize given that in virtually every mmorpg (of the time), it's better to grind in groups.

Hence Kirito is consistently partied with Asuna and has an occasional friend in Kismel, the dark elf who breaks the AI for unexplained reasons. She'll likely be around until the ninth floor or so, where the elf campaign was supposed to end. That'll be a while yet though, and Kismel remains a main character in the third volume (this is currently the second one, after the first they covered one floor a volume).

I can see why Kirito chose the dark elf chick.

aku would be proud

They should have made an anime like this and slowly went up in floors would be interesting. I guess I'm done catching up now.

Whenever I want to read this I try to take a look on novel but meh, these light novels always put so much details so is quite tired to read haha. xD

The anime was the Main story (in the novels) and the extra details in some floors (ex floor 1) is a side story.

problem with anime is that viewers expect to see a sort of resolution to a crisis by the 12th or 13th episode in a single season, or by the 24th in an extended double season. to go up floor by floor and do justice to the floors that deserve a mention you would need sooo much more than 100 episodes for just SAO, at least the concept behind GGO and ALO were simpler and could stay the same, but they would seem less important in contrast to the SAO arc due to the extreme difference in the length of the arcs :(

"Hers is bigger than mine!"

Does Kizmel alway be this huge??

Hey guys. I don't know if anyone will hate me or my group, but i'm here to say that we're skipping chapters 18-29. I know, everyone wants to read either on batoto or somewhere else that isn't hosting official rips, but my group has decided to skip them and head directly to volume 5. Nothing I could do, it was 1 hand against 4 voting to skip.

The only way to probably get those chapters done is with another translator who's willing to do them. And even then, there's the official rips that's hosted on other aggregate sites, so I don't even know if it's worth it.

Anyways, I'm sorry for the hiatus, we've managed to find some more staff, so please hold out for us.

I can provide some okay quality Chinese translations for 18-29 if someone is willing to clean the raws. Just lemme know. Forgive me if I don't know the names of the characters in English though.

Thank you, -Kohirii-, and I hope you can find staff for this one soon!

Himura sensei art always so beautiful. All hail himura kiseki

Note: Translations are now on HIATUS until we can get another dedicated translator.

the thing is progressive was made some time after the anime started (both started 2012), so that's why we couldn't have this awesome part in the anime.

I didn't watch the last part of the second season, cause, well, the first one was bad, and the second part of the first season was crap too. is it worth to watch all of the 2nd season??

The 5/6 last episode of the second season are the Mother Rosario arc, and quite honestly it's the only arc I liked besides the first 12 of the first season.

It adds some drama, so I guess some people probably didn't like it, but the focus on Asuna is a nice change of pace, and the additional characters are an interesting bunch for once.

It's just that the preceding arc (the one after GGO, which was... "meh" at best.) was so bad you actually want to hate the whole show. xD

(Also it's the only good opening song for the whole franchise, but that's just my opinion xD)

Spoiler

She was just taken out for the anime, which honestly sucks. Argo is epic.

FYI, Argo does appear very, very briefly in episode 3 of the SAO anime ("Red-nosed Reindeer"). It's right after the midpoint, when Kirito meets her to get the special quest info for the holiday boss and the reincarnation item.

Thanks for the chapters!
