Gorgeous art, but yeah the narrative could be better. Thanks a bunch maigo!!! Sure the Japanese book must be even more gorgeous, since most of the bubbles are vertical long ones, and it was a problem for you guys to keep long English sentences between them. Anyway, really nice job. Thanks again!!
Really interesting, I really like the art of this manga and the story is pretty good too, my only complaint is that this last chapter didn't give too much closure, the end of the manga as a whole felt like the end of any regular chapter. Thanks for work in this manga.
PD
I really wanted to see Kud's reunion with her family.
Honestly, the more I dig around with this manga, the more I am impressed with it. There are some really powerful themes that are addressed with a subtly and nuance rarely given. There is the very orthodox "power of love" kind of deal going on, but the manga actually does tackle it very well. Every chapter is tinged in an uneasy mixture of hope and fear, and a New Critic would drool over the wonderful ironies and paradoxes explored. I really fucking like this a lot. I can't get over how good this page is in context of the entire manga.
Remember, what is implicitly stated is just as important as what is explicitly stated!
The first half of the manga was pretty cryptic, but there's not that much that's super confusing about the recent chapters. This summary aims to clarify some of the plot points of the manga for anyone who has read it, but, communication/decoding messages is a major theme of the manga, so you should try to do it yourself:
The story, and storytelling is clearly lacking, but the art is very nice..
wat
How is this story allegorical and referential? Are you sure you meant to use those words? The way I see it it’s just intentionally cryptic/vague for the first half or so.
Good art, terrible writing.
The vast majority of the story is allegorical and referential, which would be fine if they were from topics that the average reader knew.
Beautiful art but...
That doesn’t really make sense to me but okay ... at least it’s an attempt at figuring out the reason behind it.
After all, it is a story about a space elevator. Horizontally-aligning the panel makes the reader feel "grounded," so to speak. The angles make the characters seem like they're high-up in the tower. Well, that's my perspective, anyway.
Somehow this reminds me of "Fragile dreams: farewell to the ruins of the moon", though I am not certain as to why it does so.
Also, it seems to be a multi layered story which is deliberately withholding information from the reader, and letting them fill the gaps. Similar to how "Dark Souls" handles its storytelling.
I tried to decipher the story one time... failed and now I have the same reason as you mmm...
Oh my god, the art here is GORGEOUS. Insta-followed!
Thank you, Maigo team.
Hmm, the art style is very different, but I guess the extreme focus on the visual aspects and the vague, hard-to-follow sci-fi themes are similar... Not a bad thing, personally I found Blame! haunting.
It's cryptic and mysterious, but not super random. Dunno why people are losing their shit over it.
A little googling shows that Kudrayvka was the nickname for the first animal in space. (Soviets sent up a Laika dog) Radio mentions an orbital elevator, so my guess is there is a Space Hook still functioning that makes a revolution down to Earth every so often. They need to reach a certain height in order to be in range to board it is my guess.
this is like one of those abstract art films where it shows a bunch of pretty pictures and absolute crack dialogue, then "seasoned" critics fawn over it saying that it's a masterpiece, even though the more sane of viewers have no idea what the fuck just happened.
i give it a 10/10 for successfully using dreamy-looking sci-fi art to divert my attention for 15 minutes whilst i tried to figure out who was saying what.
Doesn't exist on MAL.
edit: into... muck.
"You're plane"
"Straw"
"Brain Fart"
mmm...
Giving me the really cool vibes from Last Exile, Xam'd and Patema Inverted, dunno why...
Keeping a big eye on it O.O.
Color me interested for the moment - will give it a try.
