Description: | Enrolled in a certain elementary school is an unpleasant 11-year-old boy with a highly cynical outlook on society. Believing that the world lacks individuality, he wants nothing more than to be unique and remembered. The boy seemingly gets the chance to leave his name in history when he becomes the first to be diagnosed with a new incurable disease that is estimated to kill him by the age of 12. Just as he is rejoicing about his newfound individuality, he meets a cheerful, prodigious girl who has the same disease—and is nearing her 12th birthday. As the boy realizes that he won't be the first to die from the disease and therefore won't be remembered, he forms a twisted plan: kill the girl before her illness does. |

When will this ever be translated? After I die so that my kids (if I ever do), could read it or hopefully before I turn 100?
If only I could barf legit money...
Nisio, you're an odd duck. Enjoyable and unenjoyable previous works aside, I'm particularly fond of this one. I don't know if the first pages of the first chapter are the end of the series or just the kid's hallucinations.
Any help with japanese translation to english? We make clean & redraw (:
an italian official translation is coming out in 2017, someone brought the rights. God bless i can't wait to have the physical copy!
Considering that vol.2 is out already and includes chapters 6-10 I guess it's up to translation team to catch up with it.
Having to draw a manga for Nisio must be both hell and heavenly at the same time.
A nice little manga, though nothing out of the ordinary. There are certain aspects I really like, such as the design of the cloth, and other things I dislike, which would be things like the fact that covering people's faces in black lines is a bit bland. I might write a lengthier piece on this, though chances are I won't. If however you see an edit under this comment, I will have to warn you that the contents might be a bit long.
This is lovely. Didn't know there were more manga by Nisioisin out there that I hadn't read yet.
Wait... Did he make a present out of barf? >_>;
At last I hear someone speak with a bit of a brain. I'm sick to death of people saying that a story is good and "original" because it's a deconstruction. No it's not if the script ain't good because the deconstruction business has been done to the death. But I disagree with you with the reconstruct part, in my humble opinion I feel there's little reconstruction in the current industry, it's almost all: SEE!? This idea you considered isn't so nice now that you twist it into "realism"!.
Though the butcher is really good as a scriptwriter too... Madoka and Fate/Zero are amazing shows.
Narita, Urobuchi and Nisio are my favourite authors anyway.
Spongebob: You like the little girl don't you boy?
He isn't going to do it, bring on the sweet innocent romance.
Medaka Box also turned into utter shit long once he ran out of tropes to invert.
Nisioisin has his moments, but hes a mediocre writer once you accept the fact that he's just reversing the tropes the rest of the industry uses.
Nisio Ishin is still the gold standard, though
Unlike, say, the overhyped Urobutcher
We are reaching saturation on post modernist tropes though. When there are more "Lets take something deconstruct it, then reconstruct it" stories than actual building and constructing new stories, the concept becomes dry. It's becoming kind of dated and excessive these days.
Personally I'll be happy when the deconstruction fad passes.
YOROKOBE, SHOUJO.
YOSHIDA-SAN WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! GET HIROMARU BACK TO WORK DAMMIT!
Nisioisin loves to completely turn tropes and concepts on their heads. He tends to break down the idea of normality and reconstruct them. Medaka Box was one such example: Kumagawa is one of the most well written characters to this date. All of his characters border on crazy and don't really follow any sort of stereotype. Highly recommend all of his other works.
Recent edit so I don't flood the chat: Anyone else think it's significant that "Doc," pronounced "Doku," can also mean "poison" in Japanese?
And in the end Medaka became what he sought to critize and became a dreg.
Bakemonogatari and all the Monogatari are written by Nisio. Same as Katanagatari. Those are the best example of how he does things.
And if you never saw the anime of Bakemonogatari, you should. Now. No matter what you are doing right now.
Reborn also sticks out to me as a prime example. Sadly I think I would be alright with that happening. They're both so cute, I kinda want this to go on as long as possible. though, I don't think it's going to end in either of them killing the other, if it was going to happen, it would have already happened.
