I have to admit, those wealthy sadistic billionaires or similar are awfully common in josei.  It's pretty annoying.  Have you read Kimi wa Pet?

so many sensei-student romance manga need to learn from this. Rather than the dreamy, hot sensei romance with weak protagonist, they really should make a manga with a believable relationship and normal looking character like this...

 

I disagree a little bit with "normal looking characters", Amai clearly standout among all other students.

If you like this manga for the reasons you listed, then I recommend for you Koi wa Ameagari? It's even better, and the anime will premie in a few days.

The genre you're looking for is called "josei". Yes, yes, this is josei but it doesn't have two adults. But josei is the only genre traditionally dominated by both romance and adult characters.

Im a teacher and theres nothing funny or nice in an ilicit relationship betwen a student and a teacher. Maybe Im way too stoic about this, but cant keep thinking thats not funny to depict this kind of situation as if its normal, or even worst, as if its okay to do it.

 

On one hand I can 100% see where you're coming from, especially as more and more parent / teacher scandals are happening in the real world and really think they are creepy and absolutely NOT okay.

 

On the other hand, for some reason they never really bothered me in fiction. In fact, I often intentionally seek them out - finding a romance manga where both characters are adults is nearly impossible, so the next easiest an adult character and a teen, and student/teacher is one of the easiest ways to find those.

 

I honestly think Student/Teacher wouldn't be nearly as popular and prevalent as it is if it weren't for the NEED to constantly fulfil the quota of 'Highschooler for a main character'... that and it's an easy and instantaneous way to add secrecy and intrigue to an otherwise vanilla premise.

I'm going to hare how I sound now, because it is so gosh darn condescending. But the issue with power relationships is that the way they make us act is something we are not entirely conscious of. For example there have been people who have fallen in love with their psychiatrist, but it cannot be ascertained whether or not it happened due to them liking one another or if it is because of the patient-doctor relationship they have.

In this case we have something similar with the student-teacher relationship, in that we cannot distinguish between genuine love and a relationship based on the power disparity between the two. Thus the safe option of waiting until the relationship doesn't exist anymore, or has at least lessened, which sadly means waiting until she isn't his student anymore. Of course this isn't a perfect solution, since the vestiges of their relationship will still be there (I at least would be weirded out by the thought of taking a drink with my old teachers for example). But it is the best solution I can think of

For reference I am a swim teacher, only for fun, and am also going to take care of some new students next year. Boy are we drilled about being careful about the power relationship. They can't even offer us candy due to the possibility of abuse (even unconscious).

You know when I was a kid we were doing a play in grade school and I was supposed to take something out of my pocket and I did, except a bunch of candy wrappers came out as well. That I had in my pocket at the time.

And can you believe it - it did NOT cause me any sort of trauma into my teenage years? That's how you know you're not a manga character I guess
