I'm about to reread this because I found it again on GoBoiano. Then I might read the VN because I hear it's great.

Tsukihime DOES have an anime: I hear it's god awful.
Why is the manga always better than the anime.
Tsukihime - Anime doesn't exist, play the game.
Fate/Stay Night - Deen: "Let's portray Shirou as even more blockheaded and one-dimensional than in the actual fate route! Character development? What's that? Oh, and who's up for bondage Sakura?" Play the game (or the new anime, praise blessed Ufotable in their all-encompassing grace and mercy, we are not worthy).
But in both cases, they both got manga that stuck to the "introductory" route while managing to feel like complete stories without sacrifices and ended up really solid. Why couldn't the animes be anywhere near this good?
Edit: Wait, nvm, I was wrong, after getting into it more FSN manga is to be avoided. I just assumed the best...
Nope, the part where you see Shiki on the grassy field at night and meets Aoko after all those years (8 to be exact) is the real world, where he devotes himself to find a cure for Arcueid's Vampiric Impulse, be it random Conceptual Weapons/items and/or random fruits that spawn in random Phantasmal Species forests.
This if we accept "as canon" the "Prelude" and "talk." side-stories which Nasu hasn't incorporated yet to the Tsukihime franchise.
But yeah, the grassy field is the real thing. The scenes where he actually goes to the Millenium Castle and releases Arc (does she even need to be released...?) are the non-canon part.
...Just reread it again. Still one of my all-time favorites.

No. You saw that portion where he wrapped the bandages around his eyes? That's his new version of the glasses. His old glasses have become ineffective and he needs that. I believe this was a connect to the short story called "Talk", the one where he has bandages instead of glasses and is referred to as Satsujinki.

I'm going to err on the side of a "happy ending" even if the VN and other sources ended differently. The manga is obviously being vague in order for the reader to make their own judgement.
Usually, in manga, black pages mean that what is happening is either in a different time or part of a dream. When Acrueida "wakes" it shifts to white, indicating that it is the real world. Of course, the author could be cleverly baiting and switching by reversing the format.
However, it's clear that the empty field where he meets the magician lady again is not the real world, regardless if he really ever sees Acrueida again. It's a different place where he doesn't need his glasses and is probably outside of time.
Of course, It could all be a metaphor for how outside of the normal universe, they are together forever as joined souls. Either way, Shiki has come to terms with happiness. So, it's as "happy" as anything can be in this prototypical Nasu-verse storyline.
to my understanding, the epilogue contains two "stories" shiki meeting that woman, and freeing arcueid, meeting the woman happens beforehand, and during this, Ciel discovers arcueids castle, jump cut to shiki freeing arcueid.
and as far as i know, this is how it was meant to end, if it had a "happy" end.
Just played this for the third time yesterday and finished to reread this manga for the second time and it's still as good as the first time. ♫
