I think I have cared more to the ones that have died in this tipes of extra rather than in the main story, but it doesn't mean you're cold-blooded, it could be just that everyone knew they were going to die in this case

I do in some cases, provided it isn't apparent what the person is talking about. I fear Sidonia no Kishi lacks some of the popularity, though.

Don't know if you're the only one (although I hope so), but that likely means one (or more) of three things.  One, you're a psychopath (meaning you lack empathy/sympathy for others); two, you've become desensitized to violence and/or death; three, you're simply not engaged in the story and its characters.

 

Personally, I feel sad for the characters who die (I think I may have cried at several points during this or the main story), but I also realize that this is just fiction, so I'm not bawling my eyes out (more like a single tear rolls down my cheek).  I'd be more worried about being cold-blooded if real people died, and you just thought, Ahh, what a pity...

 

Probably the third, since this is a manga that can bawled your eyes out if you get too attached to the characters.

The last is rare. All are normal. There are rules in biology. Being unable to spot the chromosomes on a person with a naked eye doesn't mean they exist outside the rules of science.

I'm sure plenty in Soul Eater and other series with similar characters exist outside the rules of science but I do share your viewpoint. Just that being genderless is far more amazing since it is impossible and you have none of the drawbacks other than you basically not having a species or at least a species that can evolve further. I'm not sure whether split-cloning or fission in macro organisms count as genderless though but normally you do not associate fission microorganisms like bacteria and viruses with gender.

Right cause Zoe is the family name. Given name is Hange/Hanji. Meaning the Zoe part has nothing to do with gender.

 

• The author, Hajime Isayama, has left Hange's gender open to interpretation as he told his editor that 'either one is fine' and instructed Kodansha USA not to confirm any gender in their translation. Since then, Kodansha has removed gendered pronouns for Hange in their translation, and clarified that indeed, Hange's gender is up to the reader's interpretation. The anime on the other hand, has consistently depicted Hange as female

Questioning your sympathy for a fiction makes you figuratively more warm-blooded than you give yourself credit. But if you're only concerned if anyone else lacks shock towards these character deaths, I'm sure you're not alone. 

I know but that's what they have decided to use on the wiki and where I copied this from. And even if he is trolling, leaving it up to the reader's interpretation isn't so bad. Hanji is a lot less complicated than other characters in manga like Chrona in Soul Eater. That was one case where I could never ever decide what gender to give so I decided to go with genderless since genderless is awesome. There is no bioligical absolute rule saying one MUST be male or female =P

it's cool that you want to share your opinion but i'm almost sure that there're people who look at the comment section first before reading, so please use a spoiler-thingy next time

Sorry.  Usually when I want to read something I read it rather than look at how others react to it, so I don't check the comments section first.  Obviously everyone else does not follow suit with that.

Indeed. Similar technique is employed by other mangaka too. Just that translations tended to use "he" or "she". I used to hate it, especially in Chrona's case, but it actually fits Chrona's character to be left ambiguous.

Well...Isabel died a very bloody and horrible death...and I hated it.

 

I'm going to cuss like a sailor now.  Not here obviously.

 

I really shouldn't be that angry considering how obvious it was.  Plucky characters always die horribly in these settings to showcase how terrible the setting is.  But because we already know how horrifying the setting is we can see the flags much easier.  Plus this is Levi's backstory, which we know is suppose to be tragic.

 

Still really angry about it though.  But then again I don't read tragedy much in the first place.
