That 7th chapter turned out to be one of the best detective parody i've ever read.

too bad that it ends at 'Nominated'.. kinda hope this manga could have won the special award or something

Thank you so much for the chapter blueflor. The last chapter was very funny, and everything there got its right place, but my favourite one was the fifth. All of them are good, and I'll add this author to my followed, since is a great storyteller.

There is a bunch of short stories in Terrarium in Drawer by the same author. Also another award nominated work. I mean, sometimes, the awards make sense. 

I find it actually not that surprising. No matter how shitty your world may be, its never 100% shitty. There is always SOMETHING good happening in some corner. Story is essentially the silver lining in the shitty cloud that is the world.

 

 

 

I am totally grateful for the translation and all that and i dont wanna seem entitled, but i feel like the translators dropped the ball on this one. It was quite obvious the type of creature it was and they could have easily taken the initiative to translate it to griffon.

 

That said, maybe its kind of a theme thing so they didnt want to wreck it. After all, its teh first chapter and if there isnt a dragon in it, itd probably be abit wierd

Hahaha, half of the comments are debating this. It's "dragon" in the raws so we went with it. Who knows, right? Maybe the people thought that's what a dragon looks like. Maybe it's a child of a dragon that is somehow a griffin, but people call it a dragon anyway! I think it's best to see this volume as a collection of mythical creatures, "children" of the dragon, the king of mythical creatures, so in a sense they're all related. And no one's arguing semantics for the other chapters. =p

Second chapter becoming reference, I don't think this manga is so much about dragons, but just mythical creatures (interacting with human lives). If anything the only connection to dragons I see are human projections from their own myths.

^Just think of it this way; it's all human imagination anyway.

In terms of translation, reading our website or chatting with us on irc, you'll see that we're sticklers for a faithful adaptation, so we do our best to convey the author's meaning unless it seems to be an outright mistake (ex. misspelled English words).

This is an interesting and erudite discursion on Vietnamese mythological beasties.  Ch. 1 of this, however, is clearly set in a medieval European setting.  The clothes, the rounds of cheese, the style of armour and so on and so forth--quite typical of and mostly specific to Western Europe in earlyish middle ages.  And the critter is a European critter--not a Qilin or a Long anything, but a quite carefully rendered classic Griffon, with the body of a lion and eagle's claws, wings and head.

It seems clear to me that the mangaka has given quite a bit of care to a specifically Western setting, so it's out of place here to be bringing in Asian mythical beings, cool though they are.  No doubt it ended up getting translated "dragon" because the language used has no word for "griffon"--but it still is one.

Hey. That's not nice. Don't return hollow black sentiment with hollow black sentiment (or it will cause a rift between the worlds to open and we'll be overrun by deadly things with too many tentacles and then we will all be sad).
 
Although I do have to wonder what manga the OP is reading. It doesn't seem to be this one. While none of the endings are downright tragic, there's definitely plenty of mellow bittersweet here. Is everything that doesn't end in ash and death a "Disney Movie"? =.=; Maybe only the first chapter was up when (s)he said that.
