I'm disappointed as I adored Koukou Debut

I think you need to go back and re-read Koukou Debut.  I'd hazard a wager it was some time ago that you read it and fell in love with it.  I myself am very fond of Koukou debut, but it was very much a product of its time, and had plenty of the flaws you're talking about, in my opinion probably more so than "Sensei!"

I also think that the characterization in "Sensei!" is probably better, if more understated, than in "Koukou Debut".  Both in terms of skill at conveying the characters and in terms of the characters actually having individual personalities to convey; the two mains in "Sensei!" are more specific and different, less members of the "archetypal shoujo heroine and hero" category than the ones in Koukou Debut.  Note that I don't have anything against well-emoted renderings of character archetypes and, as I say, I do like Koukou Debut (although I think it wouldn't hurt if it lost a few arcs in the middle, which is probably true of Sensei! as well).  Still, that is what it's pretty much doing, whereas the "Sensei!" leads are rather more specific people.

Guys, this gets a live-action.  Have you seen the trailer yet? OMG I am so happy!!!

Came to read this because kawahara kazune wrote koukou debut which I loved and adored, though there were some frustrating parts.

But Sensei! feels to be completely written by a totally different author, and the art is different too.

I mean I know this was made during the 90s so kazune definitely improved since then but...

I wanted to like this manga so when I usually give up about 5-7 chapters if it doesn't hook me in, but I stayed till chapter 20, and it's just WAY too dramatic.

I mean drama is OK, but it REALLY depends on how you handle it. It's like cliche and tropes, they're not the bad parts, its all about how you portray those tropes and how an author handles them that separates the bad and the good. Is this confusing you?

The art is not my cup of tea, the MC is not my cup of tea. 99% of the time she looks like a kicked puppy, and I know shoujo and realism need a fine balance, but this was just not believable in any sense.

The realism might appear in the later chapters, but the over dramatic soap opera style and doodle art is a turn off.

Also, a student always going over to the sensei's home? Cmon, that's the least realistic. How is this even normal or acceptable? I mean obviously I'm not against student-teacher stories, but srsly some things are done just for the plot progression. Like you should think about why something happens, the reasons, not because you want it to happen. That's why proper development and inner monologue in a manga is so important. The readers can't just guess what is going on or what the characters are thinking.

Also, I'm a shtick about character development, especially how they fall in love, and it just felt too early, too fast, with not much of a believable/sensible/logical development, especially on the sensei's part.

I know hirunaka no ryuusei isn't the most realistic, but personally, I thought it handled the inner turmoil and holding back from doing too much with a student better and more believable.

I'm disappointed as I adored Koukou Debut, but everything about this manga from the story telling to the art was just... no. It was like the mangaka was a completely different person.

I think kazune is better off dealing with lighthearted romcoms, whereas Sensei! was too ambitious for her since this was done during the 90's. Maybe if she attempted Sensei! now in 2017 things wouldn't be a dramatic mess.

Itou's story was awwwwwwww *0* Becoming a teacher after all that is a bit funny through

Hahaha! That bonus chapter is so Itou. Loved young him telling off teachers.

Daktyl, happy to be of service old chap!

Ah~ Another great manga comes to a nice end...

Gotta try not to cry >.<

Well, nice fluffy final chapter.  Well, probably final?  What was that little note from the mangaka "It seems like I can draw an extra volume, so when you happen to spot one, I'll be in your hands."

So, anyone know if that exists, or will be scanlated, or anything?

I found this manga thanks to a comment you made in reply to somebody asking for good manga a couple years ago, and I'm so glad I decided to check it out! So in a roundabout way, THANKS SO MUCH :D

P.S. a couple tears made it through Q__Q

Well, that was a bit more like it.  Yum yum yum.

shocking the ending of that chapter i never expected that now

Ch 81 is pretty cute.

I'm not very fond of Hibiki or Chigusa.. They're kind of annoying. Kousuke and the teachers are okay. This manga is a tad too dramatic for my tastes but I'm sticking with it because Kawahara Kazune. :P

YES YES YES

you did it, Kyousuke! you literally knocked some sense into him!

The long dark wait is OVAH

FAITH RESTORED! BOO YA!

Awesome chapter :D

I shall now look forward to future chapters with the same gusto I had before this stupid arc ahaha
