Chapters 13 and 14 are definitely my favorite chapters. It's nice to have a happy ending for once that wasn't forced or muddled by tragedy. Here's hoping the joker wanna-be doesn't succeed in her endeavors in the future.

This is how a horror story would end if it was semi-realistic, protagonist isn't a spineless moron and knows how to punch/defend him/herself.

I think the one that come out still creature resemble girl in swimsuit. Maids => Maiden => female. Otherwise they will be called Merman/ Merpeople/ Merkid/ Merboy.

I still hope for continuation...with long story..and plot. Just like SkyHigh. At 1st, it's a chapter for a story, then in 2nd series, its have long story in about 5 volume about vengeful spirit. Or..Blue Drop..this author previous works

what if a boy tried to hunt the mermaids hm? i wonder if it would work.

I think it will...no rules in the notebook indicated that only girl can use Mermaids power to pursue love

There's one. In chapter 9. Kaori that love Mariko so much, even after turned into Mermaids, sacrifice her own flesh for Mariko to eat, to save Mariko from same fate as her. But Mariko choose to be honest to her feeling and sleep on Kaori's Mermaid lap until Moring, and turn into Mermaid herself to be together with Kaori till the end of time.

I found it a bit odd that these girls find cannibalism and murder to be normal and common place.

A few questions were answered, but is that really all there was to the mermaids?  There are still some hidden rules, it seems.

Quite glad that the lore is still a mystery, really keeps that vague creepy feeling going.

I actually enjoyed this series, despite how seemingly stupid the characters are.

Glad we're finally getting some more dimension to the mermaids, I think this series has some really great horror potential.

 

I wonder if the mermaids turned hostile just because she was pursuing someone already attached. Up till now though there's been a lot of backstabbing and grabbing at someone elses crush, they've all been currently single. Still I hope for something a bit more complex than that.

Agreed, may be some little guy bullied into chant the spell and ended up fall in love with one of the Mermaids. Or the chanter have triangular love with 2 of em attempt the Hunt,thus the Mermaids must fight or solve it first

as far as the series go, there's several rules

1.Only the chanter can see , hunt, hurt , and kill the mermaids

2.The Mermaids LOVE to play TAG, they didn't allowed cheat like make traps

3.The one chant the spell must not attempt the Hunt for broke relationship (like if the Hunter target is some one already married or have lover)

4.The Hunt ritual have absolute power,over the feeling of Hunter or Hunter's target (well..they make one hell of Bloody sacrifice just for Love after all)

5.They appear in any school as long as the Chant read it around large idle water resemble lake, like Swimming Pool

So...Why are the Mermaids going all evil in the last few stories?

Maybe they only act in that way when the "ceremony" is disturbed. normally, it would go: incantation, hunter hunts mermaids till morning, kills mermaid or not. Now if the hunters behavior deviates from that, for example by fighting the other hunter or trying to trap the mermaids, they turn evil.

Something like, if you are not a hunter, you are prey.

These girls are pretty stupid, just bring a list with all the letters (celebrities or whatever) kill any of them even if it's not your lover you'll get someone who worth something. It's a good manga though.
