I really love this one shot, and I wish that more mangaka would let the visuals do more story telling than the narrative like in this one.
Panels are often contrasted with one another to produce a sense of time passing and melancholy. The fact that the two siblings are at the convenience store while the mother is symbolically left behind in the house as she struggles to leave her past. The brother, who is portrayed as a troublesome, self-righteous otaku, stays at home to take care of their mother so that his older sister can live her life normally.
Things like that don't need words to be built and I'm glad that Asano Inio is able to do so.
I love Asano Inio's style, but I feel like this should be more than a oneshot. I didn't get much out of this.
I totally agree with you on this. It's makes me feel like shit tbh.
Don't worry, not everyone can pull off Asano Inio's style, though I personally would want more.
it feels like there should be more but it´s not there. is this intentional by the author?
Oh Asano Inio, gotta read it mmm...
And yes it's good,a deep conflict with limited amount of pages mmm...
fucking web nazis am i right
More like dealing with the passage of time can suck (aging parents, increased responsibility, gloomy future, etc...)
Of course, Asano is a past-master at this theme ("Solanin", "Oyasumi Punpun", "Nijigahara Holograph", etc...). It's just that in this case he's packed the whole wallop in one chapter.
Hmm, lots of layers that aren't really expanded on, which makes them that much more intriguing. I really liked this.
Let's see, a story about changing family and values in the modern era, cast as a conflict of pride spurred on by the worries of the people who are most affected by the rapid changes in values during the modern Era of Japan.
This manga said a lot without really saying much. The tensions of family, the clinging to the idealized past, the worries about the future, all cast within a small scale disagreement within the family.
I added a few tags though
I'll admit I was expecting something like a homicide, but this is good too.
