Does anyone know how this adaptation compare to the Ravages of time? I'm just wondering which version I should read

Sangokushi is basically Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Omits a few parts, but 90-95% the same as the novel. Scene for scene, line for line. Much more faithful than even any of the live-action TV series. Basically, if you dislike reading long books not written in modern prose, read Sangokushi instead of Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Ravages of Time is an alternate imagined history of the period, just as Romance of the Three Kingdom is an imagined account (with some historical bases) of the late 2nd century-early 3rd century China. Best to read it after you already know the basic story and characters of the Romance of the Three Kingdom, but not necessary.

its toobad shu doesnt have a decent king

Even knowing how the story turns out beforehand, it's still upsetting to read about how Shu ended.

Awesome feat. I feared the series might get ignored at some point, but Hox always delivered. Thanks for the great work.

Thanks for the wild, wild ride Hox. I can't believe it's over...I feel like I should pour a little liquor for Kongming, Liu Bei, and the rest.

A, perhaps, unparalleled scanlation effort Hox. Thank you.

Great job, thanks for all the hard work.

An informative read for the context behind the Sangokushi manga: http://hoxtranslations.blogspot.com/2016/02/some-thoughts-on-adaptation-sangokushi.html

phew! it's finally over, good job at the boys over at hox for this epic!

Having never had the ending of the Three Kingdoms spoiled for me before, I've no idea how this is going to end in the space of a single volume.

and now I have a very bad taste in my mouth.

If Hox wanted to take a well-deserved break now that this series is over, I wouldn't blame them, but they're going to keep going? That is something.

Personally, I'd love to see Tales of the Water Margin get a decent scanlation someday. Maybe someday.

Thank you very much! I really enjoyed this!

Thank you for all the hard work.

wow wow wow hold on bro , you can't release full volume just like that.

Stress, fatigue, illness, and subconscious aggravation over having to restart a task he could have completed long ago (conquering Wei). can make someone make mistakes he wouldn't make in his prime, hell after years of hitting nothing but net can make one underestimate their opponent's.

But even in the past he made choices that contradicted himself (Person A swaps sides, welcome,Wei Yan saves Huang Zhong and wants to swap sides, and he wanted to give him the death penalty for not being loyal/trustworthy >__> )

The context of Kong Ming''s deep distrust of Wei Yan is actually simple. Others were compelled, tricked, forced, or otherwise manipulated by his (or other advisors') strategies to switch sides. Look for instance at Jiang Wei, whom Kong Ming had to duel for a long time to get to switch sides. Wei Yan switched voluntarily, which to Kong Ming indicated (rather unfairly) a self-preserving and self-serving personality. In fact, what made Wei Yan unique was NOT Kong Ming's suspicion of him but his continued service in the Shu military. Other officers who switched sides on their own initiative were either sidelined or removed to civilian posts, this being Kong Ming's standard policy. Wei Yan was simply too good as an officer to be treated the same way, hence his continuing service despite the suspicion.

Welp, there it is, show’s over ...

i hope angry general dude at least burnt to dead

Good to see Wu is useless as ever.

Even Kong Ming sees that he cannot avoid his personnel crisis for much longer.

Well, given how much liberties he takes with history he could’ve started with the more realistic depiction early than now is all I’m saying :P

If you’re trying to romanticize (huehue) a historical person then it’s not such a smart idea to do it over-the-top for as long as he didn’t fail in history and then suddenly make him look like a loser (comparatively anyway) once he did fail and you can’t change that unless you directly contradict history. Which, if you really think about it, Guanzhong did, too, more than once. I mean if you’re gonna write borderline fiction, why not go all the way?

Obviously you were. I made my post to comment on how history is forcing the author's hand, and making the character look less than he has been previously portrayed in the story. It's the problem with stories like this, and RotTK in general.

I say sometimes, because he was a very capable man. Ordinarily he was great at organization, had a prodigious work ethic, and was very able at running the state. Those are things that RotTK gets right. Kongming was able to wage five costly campaigns and generally nobody disliked him for it. Shu was very stable while Liu Shan was on the throne and Kongming was running the show.

So, when legends speak of his ability to rule and make administrative decisions, they match up with reality. Therefore, I carefully decided to use sometimes.

Sometimes? The Kongming of RotTK is a mythical figure that has very little to do with the real-life one. I mean the artistic liberties that their author took barely even deserve that term anymore. It’s more like straight-up fabrications.

Anyway, I was speaking only about the fictitious Kongming, not the real one.
