It's pretty much how every single random-MC-in-a-girls-academy-with-fantasy goes, though. I can hardly even believe how many times I seen this exact same template being used, to this exact same degree. Even the damn stupid mecha / power-suit is the same. The MCs always have some sort of a goofy tiara, or incredibly silly power-rangers-esque uniform that makes you feel like it is designed to imitate what people think 8 years old would find cool.
It's always some random MC with a random routine, he gets involved with a girl (or more), it somehow concludes in him joining an all-girls-academy, and his debut is always by taking down the top-dog of the school, who happens to also resent him.
I seen this shit so many times, I bet your ass that either immediately, or subsequently, the academy / kingdom is under attack by some elite or unknown forces, and they really need the MC to save all of the girls.

What you say makes sense, but I think this genre is too far-gone to even question. Most authors ride on the premise that, if the underdog win with a disadvantage, he's much more coolu.

And people say that Isekai is being iterative, with "hit by truck-sama", "let's join the adventurer's guild", more cliches that I cannot pull from the top of my head. At least Isekai is a "genre", I honestly can't imagine what to call this template. Sorry for outburst of salt and rant, I had to put it somewhere after all these years.

I'm on the second chapter and the princess is using some fancy specially made dragride for a mock battle? Uh, shouldn't they both use generic regular ones so it's a skill battle, not a rich princess uses expensive super strong robot vs impoverished usurped ex-prince using a regular one? (even his is some secret op one, it still seems super bullshit for her to be using her super powerful custom one vs a guy who basically lost everything he owns...)

Talk about late replies (this one counted as well), anyways, I wont comment about the manga being poorly written as it's your own opinion (everyone has their own level in reading comprehension as I wasn't lost at all while reading), but honestly if you read in between lines that you should actually pay attention to, you'll be able to reach the same conclusion so it more or less accomplishes it's job. In hind sight, 'Hint' may not have been the correct word of choice (as you misunderstood my intentions, it was me giving you hints to parts where you can draw the conclusion out for yourself), 'Clues' would have probably been better since you seem to be nitpicking so much.

The only conclusion I can come up with how you missed those things in the first place is that you weren't very impressed with the overall manga at all since the very start and instead skimmed everything and concluded that it was garbage because of your previous bias thoughts about the manga which in turn created a vicious cycle of losing out on rather important information that you unconsciously blanked out on.

Having fictional medieval nations as the backdrop is much better than the pro-Japan modern world power bullshit that IS thinks it is portraying. This is a ripoff alright, but a far more positive result of the trend created by Infinite Stratos and its unbelievable sales.

It's a slap on the wrist formal kind of punishment.  They know he did a lot to help but there needs to be a sort of "demonstration" of punishment for fairness and such.  So they go with a punishment that's not really a punishment.  In this case, doing labor around the city instead of rotting away in some jail or the death penalty.  Sure he does requests but he honestly doesn't seem to mind it much.

That's plenty a punishment seeing how normally he would be praised and showered with riches, possibly even made the new ruler. And now he's like this just because he has the same blood.

With some back story that they've given us in chapters 1-8 and the recent chapter 9 we can determine that,

1) The person who single handedly defeated the army of around 1200 Old Empire dragknight soldiers was named the "Black Hero" and is unknown to the public.

 

2) With flashbacks we were shown that Lux was conspiring against the Old Empire, so he was on the side of the revolutionists (aka: Lizsharte's father's side)

 

3) During his talks with his older brother, he was praised for having super dragknight skills and his brother described a little concern about how Lux was explicitly putting himself in more danger for doing the "task" himself to which Lux says that it'll decrease casualties that way, then he asked if Lux would be carrying out the plan with his general-purpose wyvern or with his brother's Bahamut.

 

4) We were given a tiny flash back of Lux and his older brother's discussion after the plan was carried out and his older brother said, "if you weren't able to properly defeat the army... I would have had no choice but to call the abyss using this flute".

 

5) Look at the dragknight that the "Black Hero" used on chapter 9 page 31. Compare that dragknight with Lux's Bahamut dragknight in chapter 9 page 41,

3) Through giving him the choice of using a special(Divine) dragknight, his brother is also implying that a general-purpose wyvern wouldn't be able to safely accomplish the task that he was attempting to do and it also implies that Lux will be using a dragknight for whatever the task is.

 

4) Implies that the person who defeated the Old Empire's army was Lux. With that we now know that Lux's "task" was to single handedly take down the dragknight army so that there would be less casualties because he was a dragknight genius.

 

5) you'll notice that the're the same dragknight, further supporting these points.

 

So we can also conclude that the top people on the Revolutionists side obviously know who that "Black Hero" actually is, as he was basically a key point to their plan succeding, but did not publicize it because it'll bring problems to their cause.

 

In conclusion, Lux was the sole reason the Old Empire ceased to exist because he was actually on the revolutionist's side wishing to change the Old Empire's ways. Lux was also shunned because he was an illegitimate child of the Emperor, so he basically had no power in the Old Empire to begin with. Therefore, Lux does not want to be placed into power because honestly everyone in the general public hated the Old Empire as it was super corrupted and Lux knew of that corruption so he helped put an end to it; although, he actually wanted it to end a bit more peacefully with as few casualties as possible but it appears that his older brother had other plans and went around killing everyone while Lux was busy fighting the army.

 

Simply put, Lux does not want to be in power; if he did, he wouldn't have helped the Revolutionists. As even if he helped them they wouldn't be able to publicize that he was one of the main key people that helped bring an end to the Old Empire because he was actually a Prince of the Old Empire which they were trying to bring down. It would go against their cause for bringing down the Old Empire so they would need to keep his help as a secret, meaning he'll get the short end of the stick for helping the Revolutionists, but he still went with it anyways.

Literally nothing you've said is hinted at in chapter 1-8.
