Nope, current japanese kids are just idiots. My Hero Academia has far more potential in it's pinky nail than Naruto had in it's entire being, and it's not selling as much as such a series. That's strange as hell

I don't know--MHA is unusually savvy about western tropes (esp. superhero comics), so it's pretty hard to get a feel for how it comes across to people who don't have that background. Though I guess the glut of Marvel blockbusters might have helped with that...

WEEELLLLL, to be fair, Naruto,at the start, had an immense potential, since it was more about the dynamics of a world where children were thrown at potentiallu lethal conflicts as soldiers, with all the PTSD and traumas related to such experiences, the fights were less about power levels and more about strategy and such and looked like politics were a big part of the world's lore.

The fact that Kishimoto completely lost his mind on what the story should focus and who it should focus on is another completely different point.

True, it's the same thing that happened to Bleach. The best arcs were those related to the Hollow, Rukia's rescue in soul society was also a highlight, because it had total relation with Ichigo becoming a shinigami to fight hollow, even when they were focusing on shinigami at that point. But then the author decided to change focus to the shinigami and lost everything, had he returned to the Hollow, the story might've ended sooner but it would be much more concise, especially when the hollow didn't need to become Arrancar because the Vasto Lords were already stronger than even the Shinigami captains.

Naruto to me was the same as Dragon Ball, people overhype and overrate, because they both had elements that distract you from it's glaring flaws.

Well, that's fast.

End?!  END?!  Seriously?!  Talk about getting blue balled.

Badass story

Badass Character

Badass Mc

and an ending who is not very badass...

I'm disappointed

In WSJ or the author?

How else could unoriginal crap like Nisekoi stay around for 150 chapters?

Because Nisekoi was good and funny (until certain point).

I don't get why this guy can't catch a break. I thinks up such interesting worlds, and settings and characters if a lot of potential to grow. With Iron Knight he tried to slowly build up the story. This time he went a bit faster and set up a clear goal for protagonist and the readers. I get that there are some cliches, but not any more than any other series running in jump right now. Honestly, like most of you noted, it think the author should just try to publish somewhere else.

These guys should try other publications than WSJ. They always seem axe-happy.

The reason this story and others like it fail is because they lack any curiosity factor.  Stories like One Piece are just as formulaic as this one especially after being published for nearly 2 decades, but in all that time, you're still left with a ton of unanswered questions which leaves readers wanting more.  In this story, what question wasn't answered in chapter one?  If you leave something left unanswered, many readers (or viewers) will return out of curiosity and these types of stories while interesting fail to grasp that.

simple: sheer waifu power. also, i DO notice that the newer publications mostly fail to set and exploit the lore. not accounting half of them which are LN turned to mangas, since those have their stories set already and the manga+anime is literally an "artists's rendition"

I liked it.

It was a short ride guys.

I'm just hoping that the next series this author has is in a suitable magazine, and is as dark and gritty as always.

On the other hand Black Clover is just a less imaginative and less appealing Fairy Tail. It won't be long before it loses Jump's support.

fairy tail is imaginative and appealing? imo if it didn't have excessive fan service it probably would've ended even before 100 chapters. check the author's previous works. he's too formulaic with his characters and world building. i'm not saying black clover isn't the same but fairy tail also isn't above it.

on another note, 2 axed works from this mangaka. that's pretty sad. i hope he just keeps trying, maybe try and submit works on another magazine. imo the story was ok but his world building lacks alot in detail. alot of characters are pretty bland, the groups/countries lack complexity.

and don't forget the editors trying to milk (extend) the series as much as possible

Has anyone done a lean joke yet?

You mean with it's current sales and LN? No way. I dare to say it will have full anime adaptation soon, and more promotion than ever.

yep, they already got an OVA for Jump Festa, that's normally a sign that an anime adapation is drawing near

AND IT'S AXED.

Iron Knight all over again.

at least I liked Iron Knight better, this mangaka should try in Square or try in another magazine cause in WSJ he's work is certainly not gonna do well, with his dark yet not that dark approach and child center story he could do better with a monthly release (like Ao no Exorcist)

They're trying to get manga as popular as naruto and bleach(in its hayday) but even my hero academia isn't making sales like that. I think they're standards are a bit too high.

how this get axed but not black clover?

different cultures can be such a pain sometimes.

The difference is that Black Clover took the chance when Naruto ended, Bleach was on the verge of being axed and Jump was desperate for new titles. On the other hand this one had to compete with The Promised Neverland, and cliched storylines weren't going to fly there.

I liked the setting but didn't care for the characters that much.

Basically the entirety of the WSJ line-up.

A good premise, but it always felt like this manga was under the axe. It is a shame that it had to end so soon, however I look forward to the author's next work.
