with a place as expensive as Japan, real estate costs alot so standing takes less space, not to mention with long lines not uncommon for popular ramen joints, people move in and out faster then if you just sat around taking your sweet time slowly eating

Especially if you work/live close by. The dirt cheap year ticket will pay for itself. They also have a recreated a traditional dagashiya inside.(Hotaru and Saya-shi not included)

According to government data, they spend the most money on ramen per capita per annum with the prefecture capital Yamagata City being the highest overall. They can also boast having the most ramen shops per capita. Any extreme ramen lover should put going on a pilgrimage to this area on their bucket list.
Also check out "Ramen Kingdom", a Japanese travel show series about the ramen of the prefecture.
