Well he was in fact, a normal german soldier during ww1.
But I agree with you in that the description of him is lacking.
I'm assuming the author did a quick google search or something, because the literal translation is just "German soldier" and doesn't include any mention of rank or military standing. I'll make sure to do some research if the author uses any real world references in the future!
Proofreader here. The Japanese raws actually say "Heruman Geringu," so Hermann Goring. Since the author referenced him, we left it there.
It's weird because that quote is attributed to François de Charette. Could be either the authors or translators misconception.
