Am I the only one ships Haru's friend (black hair) wtih Akira? I am nervous about the guys she met. (The blonde senpai and otabe)

CH11: What??

Oh man, phew, I thought they were gonna go needlessly dramatic on us! Also, I kept telling her the whole chapter that what she's feeling is either indifference, jealousy or wanting the best for her REAL romantic interest (waggle waggle). Aghhhh I'm too gay for this shit...

Oh, PHEW. Chapter 11 made me sweat. Felt like I came terrifyingly close to having all my ships scuttled at once. Glad we escaped that storm in one piece. Full sails! Let's ride this wind called "But then, what was bothering me?" as far as it'll take us!

"Purely" is putting it a bit strong.  But there are certainly reasons.  Otsu Hiyori typically writes (yuri) romances, so some of us have expectations.

More generally, romantic relationships make effective stories because the stakes are high and the feelings strong.  You don't get that fluttering "doki-doki" feeling from a story about platonic friendships.  Also, conflict is one of the core bases of story.  Romance is normally conceived as an exclusive arrangement; there is conflict and tension built into a story about romance because there are so many ways for at least some of the characters not to get what they (desperately) want.  Whereas friendship is not exclusive, and there is generally no particular reason not to be friends with someone you're compatible with--there's no barrier.  Friendships can build with little or no conflict.  There's reasons so many of the great classics are love stories.

Friend stories can be good too, but they don't come with as many built-in advantages.

Well I guess my point was that I don't mind if this manga goes the romantic route or not. Most manga focuses on the over-dramatic and contrived trials and tribulations of a couple, and I find it interesting and refreshing that this story hasn't (so far). I'm hoping that this manga will be like Kare Kano, a manga where the secondary characters are all given screen time, backstory, and actual development. (Though that might be a bad example since in Kare Kano all the characters are eventually coupled off...)

kill hets

There is no romance tag, the title is 'Let's start by being friends', so why are you all restricting the characters to purely romantic relationships?

...and now the plot degeneration drama starts.

The part where everyone goes Hetero.

There is no romance tag, the title is 'Let's start by being friends', so why are you all restricting the characters to purely romantic relationships? You guys are being too short-sighted. A relationship can be entertaining, interesting, and dynamic without the big romantic gestures and sexual innuendo. I like the manga's focus on the strength and enrichment a platonic relationship like friendship can bring to people's lives.

Yeah, kind of a weird trip, this manga. GL vibes in volume 1. BL vibes in volume 2.

Then they all go straight in volume 3?

If they all go straight I will have been following this under false pretences.  How dare the mangaka do something different from what she's done before?!

Based on the authors previous works, I'm guessing (and hoping) this will go full gay too.

Oh boy... finger on the unfollow button, hope these 2 chapters were an exception...

So... entire volume is about those guys? I don't really give a damn about any of them...

Until the next chapter.. When it becomes yaoi. :P

LESBEAN

The skies seem mostly clear for sailing these ships

Male bonding, such a precious sight. :P

I think this looks like a good one too - worth a try at least. Followed for now.
Ahaha, I thought the shojo-ai vibes were strong, but it looks like there might be some shonen-ai potential here, too. Shouldn't have doubted this author, after all. This looks like it'll be a good time.

Otsu Hiyori stuff is always good (pls be yuri).
