Seems like a lot of romance manga goes that way...In most of Rumiko Takahashi long run mangas the romance(s)/shipping was left unresolved (Maision Ikkoko the exception). Many Harem and Love Triangle mangas seem to leave it to the reader how it should end.

From the 3rd chapter I can see the romance going to the classmate rather than the mom. Since both of them are pretty much similar to each other when they had the same age. Is almost like the dad is the wing man in this story
