However you can't help who you fall in love with, immoral in the eyes of society or not. It just so happens when you grow up around members of the opposite sex, your mind naturally associates them differently based on how you were raised, which is why you are not usually attracted to your siblings. However some still are.

 

When it comes to cousins, unless you grew up around them, they're just as much a man or woman as the next random stranger out there, so it's easy to be attracted to them if you don't know ahead of time and even still, for many people it still feels far enough separated from family to bypass that earlier family-conditioning.

Why would you even consider your cousin as a romantic partner, anyways? I'm not particularly close with my female cousins but the thought of doing anything with them is gross. They're family and I can't see them as anything but that. It's like having feelings for your sister. Not gonna happen.

Um, untrue. First cousins can get married in some places, but in other places 2nd cousins are the closest you can get. Even in the USA there are plenty of places where you can't marry 1st cousins, as cmattern stated below.

 

In Japan though, 1st cousin marriage is legal.

 

I think 1st cousin marriage is basically fine though. The increase in birth defect rates is very small, about the same as a child born to a woman over 40 years of age.

what are you talking about. Cousin marriage is legal in most of the worlds, but frowned upon.
