I can understand why a lot of people hated this manga since I've been there done that before with other mangas too.
It depends on your mindset and what condition your mind is in when you start a manga. That Can influence how you view it differently.
I had low expectations coming in but I didn't end up getting fed up with it as I usually do with shoujo manga.
The female MC is a nutjob, but I've seen her physical types before and they're usually paired with being super dense till the very end.
Fortunately this MC isn't that dense, and she actually has an understanding rational side to her, though she lets her emotions take over and does some crazy things as a result.
To me, the female MC is like an oxymoron or paradox, but less dramatic.
She hits people at times, displays rash behavior, but is sound in her reasoning and thought process. She's likeable enough, though I can see why she isn't liked.
The male MC is more of your typical shoujo mold, but for some reason, nakahara Aya has a way of making even cliche typical characters not as predictable or unlikable.
It's probably how she draws her panels and what dialogue to put in each panel/frame that seem familiar but slightly different that it feels less formulaic.
Although, there isn't anything remotely deep or mind blowing about her stories and I can see why people claim the characters are 1D.
They are 1D, but in this type of story there's really not a Need for character development etc. I usually rant about a Need for character growth/development but for this story I don't think it's mandatory.
Mainly because, nakahara Aya focuses on the comedy/humor and I think that was what stood out the most to me. My expectations were changed because I viewed this more as a comedy.
I would say it had a nice gentle pace going, typical of nakahara's work which I appreciate.
The problem starts around the end of chapter 7/beginning of chapter 8.
There, she speeds things up, not in a good way imo. Characters get introduced but feel abrupt given she took her time with introducing/explaining the characters in the beginning.
It's the niko niko bank, and while that's a nice drama, it gets pretty ridiculous here on out.
With the whole movie and the ending of her flying to hawaii, it's hard to take the manga seriously. What was nakahara Aya thinking at this point ?
The whole chasing the love to Hawaii part I've seen done a few times in dramas and soap operas, but it's usually with good reason and buildup.
In this manga though, it was super random and abrupt, bordering on ridiculous. The gentle pacing and progession was thrown out, and it speeds through the highway with random wackiness that doesn't quite suit the manga or nakahara's style.
Maybe she wanted to try something completely new and out of her comfort zone, but I feel you Need to start at the beginning of the manga for setup OR, have it slowly introduced later on.
Maybe if the manga was longer it would've felt less weird and random.
I would say read the first half for some laughs, Especially the kids antics.
Skip the last half, that's a trainwreck. Also the romance as always could be better.
Also an omake dedicated to Bucchan and maybe possibly a love interest would have been nice.
I enjoyed some other stories of her but this manga seems kind of a "failed project". The story is bad, the characters are too 1D and the female MC is mental @_@
I'm really scared by the idea that people like that roam the streets...
Sorry but this is crap, even if produced by Nakahara Aya.
I love this story, but I've always wondered about the title. Perhaps is it...
I came back just to read some of the bits with Buu-chan again. "Listen here. The only times a guy is allowed to cry are when his parents die. And when he gets kicked between the legs." She's so hard.
which is a shame because lovecom is one of my favorites :/
