My Boyfriend (Aoi Mamoru)

In case folks are wondering, this series is 12 chapters long. There's no drawn-out drama that's common in other titles, which is a breath of fresh air. I won't spoil what's coming, so don't worry! Nothing that happens feels outside the characters personalities. The female MC is relatable, adorable, and emotionally healthy. She's neither a saint nor a push-over, but that nice middle-ground of being lovably flawed. The male MC is the same, and my only real complaint is I felt like more time should have been spent dealing with his family. (They touched on it very lightly.)

This series is very much worth the read, especially if you prefer healthy relationships in your shoujo. I enjoyed it. I wish they'd bring it state-side officially, even if only a digital version. I'd buy it in a heart-beat!

Even with the bit of drama, this is such a fluffy manga.

Something tells me that if this was Hori from Horimiya she'd just headbut the cunt.

For once, I'd love the heroine to just call out the antagonist on her BS.

Can we all just give a little applause for this couple who managed to actually learn from their mistakes in the first chapter and not needlessly repeat them? Genuine development in relationship maturity, it's nice!

I love how natural this feels! It's shoujo alright, but it feels like something fluffy that happens in high school or college too. Especially the "Oh, they finally got together?" bit haha

Very nice.  Sweet, people feel real, has that doki-doki I look for.  Has heart.

Warm fuzzies

Cute! I'm not getting a huge drama vibe so far--I hope it leans towards a slice of life style. This feels like one of those manga that start off as a one-shot and get expanded due to popularity, so we'll see!

I have mixed feelings about when couples get together in the first chapter. Sure, it's better than a slow 20 volume romance, where the finish line seems to be a single kiss. But there are some troublesome downsides.

For starters, it's much harder to hold down a serialization, so most of these go for only 1 or 2 tanks. Secondly, it's hard to write plots for these kinds of manga without relying on a huge amount of love triangle bullshit (unless of course, the mangaka wants to make a story that progresses throughout the character's lives and into adulthood, but that rarely happens). Occasionally you'll get stuff like Renai Catalog which makes the relationship AFTER they get together in the first volume even slower than a normal "slow romance" manga. A huge plot point of Renai Catalog was how, despite dating for a year and a half, the female lead refused to put out (which was ridiculous to be honest, and I'm still mad about how selfish and annoying she was).

 

Anyways, I'll wait and see.

I understand where you're coming from, but calling someone selfish and annoying because they don't feel ready is rude and insensitive. Some people take more time than others, some people take very little time, who cares, it's their choice.

On a less serious note, for the sake of an entertaining and engaging manga, that kinda sh*t is annoying as hell and I lose interest pretty quickly if it moves to slowly. Lol. I know I'm being hypocritical.

You're missing the Emperor For Ever of "girl not putting out after the relationship starts" manga:  Pastel.

Although Pastel manages to have it both ways--meanders forever before getting them together even though it's completely clear to every character in the manga that they're going to, and then takes eternity (and counting) for them to get anywhere.  And yet I still kind of like it.
