Spoiler because long.

Spoiler

TL;DR version. It's not because he's a leader. The 10 million death count is because they didn't know what his power was, so they just slapped a big number down, and listed him as the priority target.

It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. It just would have been so much smarter to keep him alive, or re-evaluate his death count when his full ability was realized. The twist is fantastic, but I don't like this character. Works good as a one shot, less so for a series.

That's one interpretation, and the Organization is definitely sketchy, but I think you're barking up the wrong tree.

Nana's smartphone never shows intel on Nanao's talent, but the casualty estimate for Kyouya was listed as "Unknown" when they didn't know anything more specific than a Physical classification. That suggests they were able to get enough info on Nanao for their Minority Report machine to make an estimate. Nana pushed him to reveal his power to confirm that his talent hadn't evolved any further, and make sure he could die like a normal human.

Nanao's leadership potential isn't about his personality or leadership skills, but his power. How do people with superpowers and big egos resolve conflicts? A serious fight would be a battle to the death. The two guys in chapter one start with a no-powers fist fight, but when one starts to use their talents, the other has to respond with their own talents. They escalate until they're at risk of killing each other or other Talented. Anyone who tried to mediate a dispute between Talented could only do so by being even more powerful in a fight, which would probably end up being a bigger, more lethal fight.

Unless you could nullify powers altogether. Nanao only got taken seriously (and was instantly accepted as leader) when he did exactly that: stop a fight without resorting to more force. If they're not thinning themselves out, they're a lot more dangerous as a group, which (ostensibly) is where the 10 million comes from, one way or another.

The rest about Nana is probably also fairly true. I assume more about the Organization and Nana's past will be revealed later on. The numbers allegedly come from some sci-fi supercomputer analyst program. That might be played straight (I think it's kind of a silly plot device, but there's precedent) or might be a complete ruse (also plausible). It might even be estimating casualties by referencing previous incidents involving similar talents, which would be a good opportunity for Nana to turn and decide that the past doesn't dictate the future, or some wild twist like that.

Yep, that's it. His power in itself is nothing to fear. But his capacity to be a leader put him as one of the most dangerous guy of the talented. Like the proverb says: Soldiers without a commander are nothing more than thugs. (Don't know if it's the correct translation).

Okay, at this point someone in HQ is simply not doing his job.

While you wait for future chapters I'll reccomend you this trilogy of Warren Ellis about the superhuman question: No Hero, Black summer and Supergod, in the author words:

Black Summer was about superhumans who were too human. No Hero was about superhumans who were inhuman. Supergod is about superhumans who are no longer human at all, but something else.

About where to find them, I'll leave that up to you, but is a good read, specially because Ellis like to add some gross graphic details that the Wikipedia doesn't make them justice.

The idea is that even if the kids went full power-crazy, they'd still end up slowed down and distracted by in-fighting and competition, like ice-guy and flame-boy. Just because they're all "Talented" doesn't mean they'll work together, and their powers individually are pretty manageable. Even Nana can pick them off by herself as long as they're still in the dark about what's going on.

The power to nullify other powers puts Nakajima in a place to mediate disputes, like he does in the first chapter. Instead of fighting with each other, competing for power, and getting picked off individually, with Nakajima they would be coordinated, covering each others' weaknesses and blind spots. And if you've ever read a manga before, you know that the power of friendship is OPAF. If the photograph dude worked with the rest of the class, Nana would've never made it past chapter 2, for starts.

If this all gets played straight, I figure that's what the author has in mind. Still entirely possible that Nana's command is lying to her in some way, and I'd be shocked if there wasn't some kind of twist down the line.

Okay no. I'm still stuck on Nakajima's murder headcount. The guy who can rewind time could make for one unstoppable mad bomber, the wound licking girl, likewise, could find some pretty dangerous uses for her power. Future guy is a lot less dangerous, but it's reflected in his lower expected kills.

But freaking Nakajima. The guy's only ability is to cancel other powers directed at him. How the hell do you manage to rack up millions of normal human kills in a human/mutant war when all you have is an ability to cancel other mutants' ability? It just doesn't make sense.

Dam son...got outplayed :P she pulled a kankoruo on her..

cant see how she gonna pull it off...that is if the Necromancer is also send in by the government, and just testing Nana,, in her mission

It was implied that Nakajima would have the potential to be the leader of the talents and start a war / revolt = millions of causalities.

True but that's bullshit, since humans already know of his powers, it's impossible to believe he wouldn't be stopped before he had the chance to even recruit a talent user. If there's one thing the author did right was making Nana into a fanatic. Fanatics are blind to their own actions and to the inconsistencies in their belief. So she can be freely used, and no matter how absurd her orders are, she'll follow through and complete her missions. Yeah it's ok to give credit to the author for proving that his characters are actually smart and not just more stupid than the stupid zealot MC(like so many people have been criticizing earlier).

Nice theories there, I actually quite liked the third possibility. Nana is a mere puppet at this point, so whatever plans they have for her after she completes her job(or fails) you can be sure that it won't be any good. If only she wasn't a justice fanatic she'd notice how much is she being used here.

Which would mean they're double counting kills so nana should doubt the data. But since she's an idiot...

I enjoy reading this as a cynical piss-take of A Certain Magical Index. I would also take great pleasure in someone pushing obnoxious Gary Stu Touma off of a cliff to his death.

By the way, have you noticed? The teacher said he can't contact th police because there is no police on the island (that means there is also no way to bring them to the island from outside too) but they have no problems to find a coffin.

So does that mean that they have coffins prepared beforehand?

Standard school equipment. Rulers, chalk, a supply of coffins large enough for any school...

Not to mention they somehow must be getting supplies, I doubt they have a giant fridge full of ingredients that can easily last for a year or whatever with plenty in excess in case of emergency.

Or drugs if kids get sick... Come on, someone breaks a bone or an epidemic breaks out, or has a heart attack and needs treatment, and they can't contact anyone at all?

I guess that the info is NOT public, but when it gets public, a revolt might happen. Because if they are capable to take down the capable ones.... what God knows the Government will go to do to the normal ones?

Why I feel that even the destruction made by the Talented ones were in fact set ups to take them down?

Something is totally fishy... and is matter of time to discover it...

And also... where are the parents of them?

Its good to maintain a healthy scepticism of the 'official' narrative. After all its not like the government is always honest with the public.

I suspect that rather than a revolt of the 'talents' against humanity, it was a revolt of 'talents' against the establishment.

I mean, who the heck came up with the potential 'casualty' count of each 'talent' so far (leader guy with cancel ability, healer girl wth?)

Yet on the other hand people in power will never be called out nor suffer any consequence of their decisions causing millions of deaths (i.e. some recent USA presidents).

I look forward to when the people in power designates dear MC here as a threat, or even a 'talent (for murder)' to be eliminated. Another useful idiot as some says. Calling it here......

Perhaps. The island is supposed to be a death trap by the government. However, I don't think that's the case. It seems that in that island there's only the school, and the school isn't self-sufficient, meaning supplies must be brought from the outside. Asking for a coffin wouldn't be too difficult.

What the comment about the lack of police reveals isn't that the authorities are unable, but unwilling to send them. Either the talented behave themselves, or the army will be sent. No middle ground of nice police officers. And that's public (even if not well-known) information.

Wat

Immortal? Than it's not Logan(he died 3 times already), I'd say Deadpool, but given the fact that neither the explosive force of the bomb, nor the the heat caused him any harm, he's more like Bruce WIllis from Unbreakable. Also, it's pretty cute how Nana thinks poison will work against him.
As if people had never tried that before, until they reached the conclusion that he is pretty much immortal...

I keep being angry at myself each time i come back to read this frustrating manga.

It would be great if the plot changed into "kids with superpowers need to think about the way to stay alive in the world where everybody considers them too dangerous" with nana alive or dead, whatever.
But author doesn't seem to have this kind of abilities, to pull this out, so I suppose we'll get "monster" of a week, and a lot of plot armor

The reason is simple... That numbers are fake. They are just using her as a tool. The government is filled by basterds as dangerous as the mutants..... And we will find why they are doing that... Why I feel that they are a group of powerful mutants who don't want to hace enemies in the future to take them down? Oh wait..... And why I see now a battle between Logan (inmortal guy) and Light (psycho killer girl)???
