Miss Jiu (main character) was born to Prince Yong, thus princess by birth, but in order to move up in hierarchy, Prince Yong needs a male heir. It happens on the night Jiu is born, the Chen family has a baby boy. Thus Prince Yong acquires a male heir by switching out his daughter for the Chen family's son. Years pass and Jiu grows up as the daughter of the Chens and is taught martial arts. Jiu ends up in the middle of a love triangle, on one side the scholarly young master of Jiang family, and on the other Prince Bao heir to the throne (who I think, but haven't confirmed is the boy she was switched out for).
