Except that acro comes from Greek, as does micro, so despite your implication that it's pronounced ack-row-year, the correct pronunciation according to Marvel Comics, as well as the original Japanese, is uh-croy-er (アクロイヤー). The name was chosen as a counterpart to micro, as well as being a Japanese pun on aku (evil) and kuroi (black), while ending in 'aa' which is generally translated as '-er' because mecha back then had tended to have names ending in er (eg Mazinger, Exkaizer, MOSPEADA, Astroganger, Getter Robo, Patlabor, and others)

Also, just because the prefix is acro does not mean it is pronounced a certain way. For example, acrobat and acropolis both have etymology deriving from the Greek akros. However, one is pronounced ack-row-bat while the other is uh-krop-oh-lis.

Thank you. I do actually pronounce it as 'uh-croy-er'. The whole name pronunciation thing has been kind of an inside joke in some of the collector circles. But I should have known better. On the other hand, I really like the info you provided. It was very informative & interesting.

Microman Club has been doing some other materials on the blog as well, including scanlations of the first and last catalog pamphlets (which contain a fair amount of lore) from the 1974-1984 run. More manga to come, too.
