Description: |
Niwa, a college student of architecture, is moving into his deceased grandfather's house. He didn't know the man very well, but the house is conveniently close to school, and his grandfather was actually the architect who designed it. There's something unsettling about the house, though, and while he's wandering around, Niwa finds a mysterious old photograph of some girl who isn't his grandmother. Later, he goes along with his friend Akira to take drawings of another old house that's going to be demolished. As he meanders through this old house, he has a somewhat supernatural and startling experience. Are these feelings and occurrences a result of the souls of the buildings themselves, as Akira suggests? Or is there some even deeper mystery to Niwa's uncanny experiences? |

If you start complaining about that, you'll never stop. Modern art, modernist literature or philosophy, contemporary music, etc all refer to some specific time period before the present. Might as well complain that physicists use "work", "power", and "force" to mean something different than what the common language implies.
Toume Kei is a woman.
..... As an engineer student, i am really tempted to complain about dumb architects.
A bit like the way "modern" or 'modernist" architecture in English can refer to a movement that peaked in the 50s and 60s.
I think you're probably right. In any case, he's gonna save it somehow.
I am willing to bet money that rich guy buys the building and does renovations on i for the cherry blossoms.
Yesterday's actually getting close to done. There's a guy putting in pretty regular monthly updates and it seems there's only a few chapters to go. Recently every chapter has had actual stuff happening! I'll try to remember to let you know when it actually hits the end.
Because the Grinch's heart is about to grow 3 sizes.
There's no plot progression but why am I enjoying chapter 18
this series is starting to mirror his other works where nothing really happens for a couple of chapter, this author likes taking his time lol
Apparently, though "contemporary architecture" means "21st Century architecture" in English, the Japanese word commonly translated as "contemporary architecture" means "pre-war Western-style architecture" in Japanese. That confused me for a sec, but it's clear what they mean.
I'll admit I was slightly annoyed when this chapter started and it appeared that jerkface would be more important in this arc, but after finishing the chapter, this looks like it'll be a lot of fun.
Well, I can see where jerkface got his bluntness and arbitrariness. As to his grumpiness, well, he clearly didn't inherit it from his dad, but I can see that guy making me grumpy.
Kwitch'er trolling. This is Toume Kei we're talking here. Look at her other work; a sappy shoujo ending? not on your life. There's more likely to be sad spirits than sappy lollies.
If you try to get lollies out of Toume Kei you'll get something like Ian (an actual doll animated by a spirit) or Acony (who looks like a middle-school girl but due to a supernatural accident is twice that age). In both cases the male MC did not get a Good Ending.
Hi Comadrin! Toumei Kei is a good mangaka. If you're feeling verrry patient, you should try Yesterday Wo Utatte by the same person. Beautifully done, but the pace is notoriously glacial.
Since she hadn't met him at the time, I don't see how literal it could be.
Wait what, hope this doesn't go into THAT route
Did someone say Usagi Drop?
I heard someone say Usagi Drop XD
I like drama (particularly from this author), but I really hope it doesn't get too weird again.
Just started this, having been lured by the description, as I have a thing for old buildings, kind of like the girl from the kendo dojo. I feel the frustration at seeing older buildings that were built with passion and imagination torn down to make way for ticky-tacky. So much that is replacing them is real drek. I have to agree with Apollo Kenobi that this manga has an Ashinano Hitoshi feel to it, with all the mystery and drama rather understated (just the way I like it). Writing, as with acting, always seems much better to me when it is subtle instead of "in your face." It has been a great read so far, and I'm really looking forward to more chapters.
Mystery? A bit i guess? It doesnt leave me guessing like other mystery mangas and the Supernatural part is pretty unique
Drama, there's only a little it is mostly slice of life
The tags say "Drama", "Mystery" and "Supernatural", and I suppose that's all true . . . but mostly it feels kind of restful and nostalgic more than dramatic or mysterious. The backstory and even the characters' stories seem almost like an excuse to noodle around with cool old buildings and wish they weren't all getting torn down. Not surprising considering the mangaka, I guess.
