Magic Book to Start from Zero

Alt Names: alt ゼロから始める魔法の書alt Grimoire of Zeroalt Zero kara Hajimeru Mahou no Shoalt Zero Mahou
Author: Kobashiri Kakeru
Artist: Iwasaki Takashi
Genres: Adventure AdventureComedy ComedyDrama DramaFantasy FantasySeinen Seinen
Type: Manga (Japanese)
Status: Ongoing
Description: Year 526 of the Liturgical Calendar.
The world knew that witches existed, and that they practiced the notorious art of sorcery.
Nevertheless, the world did not know anything about the study of magic.

Our story follows a half-man, half-beast mercenary; humans mockingly call his kind the “fallen beasts”.
He always dreamt of becoming a human, but one day, he met a witch who would change his life forever.

“Do you desire a human form? Then be my escort, mercenary!”

The witch introduced herself as “Zero”, and explained that she was searching for a one-of-a-kind magical tome that bandits had stolen from her lair. Entitled “The Book of Zero”, the grimoire supposedly contained valuable magical knowledge that could be used to effortlessly bring the world to its knees.

Thus, in order to realize his dream of becoming a human, the mercenary must accompany Zero on her journey—despite her being one of the witches he so loathed.

This is the story of a haughty sorceress and a kindhearted beast.

In light of the upcoming closure of Bato.to, we at NanoDesu Translations would like to remind you all that the Zero Mahou manga (from chapter 4 onward), as well as the spinoff manga Zero Mahou Nano, can be found on the Zero Mahou light novel translation project site: https://zeromahouthetranslation.wordpress.com

Making a man go bald is a brutal act, I so declare.

Hey Agnes, what do you think of the mercenary's fur?

Even in a fantasy world, Shimakaze's existence is still 'too lewd'.

Aahahahaha There are things that cant change, no matter the world xD

Is there a way to support you folks, actually? Good work is ought to be rewarded.

Ya'lls continued readership is more than enough! I'm glad you're enjoying the series!

I love the art style for this, especially zero.

There's not much more we could want besides taking personal pride in our work, seeing it appreciated, and reading messages from people like you who take time to let us know that what we do is appreciated. As we don't take money or any sort of compensation, it's encouragement from you that keeps us going, that tells us our time isn't just going to waste. So thank you for the sentiment, and thank you for being so patient and respectful during the wait. Keep being awesome.

We actually have Chapter Seven's script prepared and raring to go, and Chapter Six, though not posted now, should be posted in a few hours. We plan on ramping up our manga efforts over the next month or so.

Total bedroom buddy, right there. :V

Just finished the anime for this, it was pretty good, wish there was more.

I don't believe no one said this yet.

But to answer our fluffy MC's question: Yes a village for a Witch is a fair trade. Whenever a Witch hunt happened, all villagers ran after them to hunt them down, not a single one of them is free of sin.

There are even reports of parents selling out their own kids to the church, even when they live beside the kid and "know"(or at least are supposed to know) quite well they are innocent, they are still willing to believe in the "Word of God" over caring for their own flesh and blood.

Witch hunts were not used only to assert the church's power and influence, it also served as entertainment for villagers, much like the Collosseum and it's gladiators in old Rome.

So no, you don't need to pity those villagers.

This logic could be applied if witches didn't exist, but they do. and they ahve power. Or are you ignoring the fact that Albus was really into KILLING our furry MC? Also witches probably put bounties on the heads of furries to use them as sacrifices. So I have to side with the normal folks there. Many witches are evil and should be exterminated in that world because they give no f*** to innocent lives. Of course that there are good witches. That Solena might have been a victim of Thirteen for example, because he wanted a war.

Ooooh. Nice job Mr. Mercenary.

And that is how you guarantee a discount

@ Bloody Sorcerer - Not all villagers went on witch hunts because they believed the person was a witch, they went on them due to extreme fear of the people in charge of the village. If they didn't go along with the village leaders, they themselves could be branded witches/sorcerers etc. and killed.  It was not mob mentality that ruled their actions but self preservation. Now, to answer two of your rebuttals...

(1) They had minimal education and we all know the lower the education level of a person, the easier it is to manipulate them with fear and confusion.

(2) Self preservation is a natural instinct.  Not only that, but police officers and firemen have to be reminded to save themselves in certain situations before they save others, otherwise there might not be anyone left that's trained enough to save others.

So, pity and mercy should ALWAYS be shown, unless you have definitive proof they are willing participants and therefore guilty and deserving of punishment.

Looking at the new cover, that is a really... interesting position for his hand.

Is it wrong to ship it. Probably. But I'll do it anyways.

Hey Batoto! I am the translator for the series Zero Kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho (or Zero Mahou, as we call it) over on Nanodesu, and as Lockman Capulet has already stated, we are picking up the manga adaptation of Zero Mahou. We are currently done with Volume 1 of the manga, thanks in no small part to the efforts of groups and individuals before us, and aim to continue translating the remaining volumes in the adaptation!

Thanks for keeping up with the adventures of Zero and Merc, and we hope you enjoy!
