Kuro could attack anyone at any time, if that was its objective then the whole story doesn't make sense.
That flashback with Coco lying on the side of the road and cage with Kuro broken, she had white hair, she used to have black hair and with Kuro withdrawing from Coco her hair color went back to white, she also didn't look well. What I think is that she was drained back then but, because she was partially on the road, not completely drained.
The only explanation why Kuro was alive is that Kuro was only half-dead when the cage got crashed and thus that strange symbiosis and new Kuros' affection for Coco.
As a side note, the townsfolk are afraid of new Coco, why was it shown if all of that was illusion?

As for bonus chapter and cats, it might be yet another of her strange stories, like the one with her getting smaller, can't really make sense of it, they are probably half-truths.

That felt a bit... Abrupt. Oh well, I guess at least she came to terms with the death of her parents and Kuro's identity.

I am particularly relieved the doctor didn't turn out to be some sort of evil mastermind, as some scenes seemed to suggest.

Great well deserved ending mmm...

Don't be fooled kuro is mind controlling her that's why he is staying near her head everybody is really dead the town was destroyed. The first glimpse of her being mind controlled is when everything was breaking and turning white kuro is actually re-arranging her memory and stuff. it is reinforced with the extra chapter like how did she enter the forest without any monsters attacking her let alone having dozens of cats living outside the protection of the town and the fact that the extra chapter showed only black and white, remember the monsters steal color and it is known that white and black are not really colors so she still lost her color,this proves my theory.

Thank you for this plausible explanation, the ending was rather bland for me and this did my day.

huh, so did she get back her real cat or is it just a replacement cat? And darkness kuro can merge with her? That's kinda cool actually especially if it gives her superhuman abilities. Still bittersweet, her parents are gone and maria's brother is dead. 

That was not so good for me. I did not care for it, kinda sorry I read it all.

Agreeing with those who said the ending was kind of abrupt. I guess it's supposed to be a happy ending, but the abruptness still makes it kind of ominous. I should probably go back and reread the series sometime. XD

Yeah - that's basically the way I took it.

I can't decide if I'm satisfied or not.  Overall I am - I think it was a great series all in all - but the ending seems just a bit... weak.  But Coco's okay, and I guess that's the most important part.

Uh, okay? Something still feels amiss.

I thought that extra chapter was another one of her stories that she likes to write about Kuro. Turns out the symbiosis thing was real. Cat ears... Better than tentacles, at least.

The new Kuro is just there to troll readers and the townspeople.

Time to reread to possibly grasp the whole story. It actually was quite fragmented and add the relatively irregular releases (the scanlators did an awesome job!) and you can easily lose the plot and small but important details.

I bet replacement-Kuro is a huge dick to replacement-replacement Kuro behind Coco's back.
